CHENNAI: In an incident too grotesque to believe, a 30-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife, had sex with her dead body and mutilated it after she refused to have sex with him. Police, who arrested the man on Friday, said that it was the first time that such a case was reported in the city. According to police, Subash, a resident of Poonamallee who earns a living by selling soft drinks on a push cart, came home drunk on Thursday afternoon. He asked his wife, Shanti (28), to have sex with and she refused. "After this, he said he was hungry and asked her to give him food. An angry Shanti told him that there was no money to buy groceries and, hence, she had not cooked any food. She began scolding him for seeking physical pleasure when he was not providing money for household expenses," said a police officer. Angered by this Subash slapped Shanti who she fell down unconscious. He then took his children's skipping rope and strangled her to death. Police said Subash then went on to have sex with his wife's lifeless body before mutilating it. Subash and Shanti were married for more than 10 years and resided on Avadi Road, Seneerkuppam, in Poonamallee. They have two sons, aged ten and seven. "He did not leave the house after the crime. In the evening, the children returned home from school and found their mother lying on the floor. They did not comprehend what had happened and ran to call their uncle staying nearby," the officer said. It was the uncle who informed the police. "The children said that their parents used to fight regularly. We arrested Subash from the house. During interrogation, he confessed that he had murdered her for refusing sex," said Inspector Velan of Poonamallee police station said. The children have been placed under the care of their uncle.

How can people have sympathy and understanding for such a horrible person?
Rads, not sympathy. In India, or for poor for that matter - have mental issues anyways, they adapt to hardship and for them nothing is right or wrong. The only source of entertainment for the poor is well "sex", and when they do such atrocities, its obvious that its another poor-drunk-tired-of-life-mental-person who did it.

I noticed the part where wife says " you can't provide for us but are seekign sexual pleasure" Sounds like prostitution to me, you provide for us and in return you will get sexual gratification.. How about everyone providing for himself herself.. PS: Guy seems to be certainly emotionally unstable to do what he did.. don't judge anyone unless u are in his her shoes though.. who knows if under that knd of financial crisis and spurned by better half who wud do what .. everyone of us are I guess capabale of that in similar scenario.. this no way condones the crime of passionthough...........

Agreed prostitution and rape both are at work here.. Wife's words sounds like reprimand of a prostitute and husband's amorous advance against wife's wish sounds like rape

^^ ..again, see how it revolves around expenses, so poor people..what the wife said goes along their condition so nothing about prostitution..its just their state. similarly, the guy who was "drunk' killed her, for him or them life really has no meaning

that's why certain sense of empathy one has to feel with both victims.. even that poor husband is a victim...... let me extrapoltae it to the larger issue of poverty One of the teacher in our RSS camp rightly said once: Given the penury and pathetic condition in which 30-40% of India lives it's miracle that we don't have naxalism in every nook and corner of our country. Our have-nots people are very tolerant and hats off to them and our have category are very callous and shame on them. PS: This in noway endorses naxalism
