Celeste Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 DC....Did you ever gained weight with the drugs?
Desi Cartman Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 DC....Did you ever gained weight with the drugs? yes but not all medications cause weight gain. In my case the eyesight got affected when I took lithium for 2 years but that was the main drug that helped me become stable. Weight gain can be controlled & if depression is really bad then it doesnt leave you with many options

Desi Cartman Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 ok...Did you lost weight after you stopped taking lithium and the eye sight problem went away ? I gained 10 -15 kgs due to medication or maybe because I didnt want to move for 2 years :dontknow: I have lost 7 kgs this year after stopping medication but that happened because I exercised.. eyesight : the doctor said that it Might go back to normal but it didnt .. I still wear glasses but even before the medication I was prescribed .5 glasses but I never bothered to wear glasses and now I wear .75 so Im not too sure what medication did IMO if the doctor asks someone to take medication then follow the advice. Slight weight gain is not as important as being alive. Once the medication starts working then you can always lose weight.

I think it helps some people ease of their tensions by doing meditation and/or yoga. Keep yourself busy and DON'T follow your daily routine (i.e. idling, spending some lone time :hehe: (tharki :haha:)). Try to keep yourself busy. Keep saying to yourself that you don't need medications, that might motivate you in positive sense. In short, sher ka jigara rakh. Even I have difficulty sleeping but that is due to anxiety so I turn my TV on and watch some random sh*t that's on it and eventually fall asleep. But that's just me. One more thing I have noticed is waking up early in the morning really helps. :icflove:

I have been VERY busy at work off late. I am gonna try and exercise for the next 3-4 days and if there isnt much improvement then I will start the medication again. This is what I did couple of months ago and I was able to avoid the medication In short, sher ka jigara rakh. Even I have difficulty sleeping but that is due to anxiety so I turn my TV on and watch some random sh*t that's on it and eventually fall asleep. But that's just me. One more thing I have noticed is waking up early in the morning really helps. I do the same thing but I usually fall asleep around 1230 and get up around 8. In the last few months its become worse and yesterday I slept at 3 am and I got up at 7. I also woke up at least 5-6 times during this time. Sweating is making me nervous as thats a clear sign that something is not right.

Dhondy Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I see that some of you are discussing your depression online. That itself is a wrong, retrograde step. It won't make you feel better. Listen, the reason you guys are depressed is because of low self worth. You are posting at work, essentially cheating your employers. You may get away with it, but it makes you feel shyte about yourself. Desi-ji, surely you know- these anti-depressants make very little difference. Study after independent study have shown that they make a marginal difference. It is in the interest of big pharma to market them as miracle cures, but they are like vitamin pills, really. Placebo effect. Depression is essentially an exercise deficiency condition. You don't exercise, put on weight, look ugly, yourself esteem goes down, you spend all your time online because you don't have a life and need vicarious support from strangers, you sleep poorly at night because you are not tired, having not exercised, and you wake up unrefreshed, achy, and feeling like something the cat dragged in. Wake up, face the truth. Start running for 30-40 minutes daily, preferably outdoors, do resistance exercise for 15 minutes, give up online forums and spend more time with your family. Work hard, don't cheat yourself. Come to think of it, this forum should be shut down. It's a trap for such vulnerable people. Please don't post any questions or seek clarifications from me on this thread. This is a public service message, and I won't be logging in to check for replies because I need to make a living. I suggest you do the same.
zubinpepsi Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Great post Dhondy.. I agree completely with you.. You are posting at work, essentially cheating your employers. You may get away with it, but it makes you feel shyte about yourself. this is so true about me..im trying my best to be more efficient at work.. whenevr i wasste time i feel so shyte.. i get more distracted , only when im at work or trying to do some work.. maybe the forums r really bad for ppl like me who dont hav self control/discipline.. i think exercise is the best way to deal with ur stress.. it works for me.. look wat im doing now.. posting during workin hr.. when i shud b actualy working..and i have loads to be done.. :(( ok im outta here..

Lurker Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Its a mixed news Desi. The bad news first. You have had a relapse and that is never a good thing. You thought the worse was behind you and it has now come back, so thats the bad news. The good news is that you have successfully did it once. So why can you not do it again? Human body is extremely resilient. In gym world there is a term called "muscle memory". What it means is if you are a regular gym goer and you stop going for a while, your muscles still retain the capacity, almost like a memory, and once you go back to the gym and bust your hump you will find it all comes back to you. Do some introspection and think what worked for you earlier. Be honest with yourself without being too harsh. Right now economy is a mess and so pretty much everyone is under stress. Specially married couples where both partners work. Take baby steps and keep your chin up. Good luck! xxx
