fineleg
Did you folks see the Arun Lal/Charu Sharma show after the Test-3? Arun Lal was giving quite some stick for Ishant Sharma, and criticizing him that he was not producing results and was disappointed with IS in this NZ series. I do think that A. Lal is being a bit harsh on IS. Yes, this Test series we all probably expected some better results from Ishant Sharma. ZK was the best, and IS and MP alternated between good and ordinary. But I think IS has good future, maybe one slightly ordinary series for him this. Not a bad series, but a bit ordinary. Maybe Arun Lal was angry he could not spot some birds Link to comment

fineleg
I think Arun Lal was talking abt the series itself Link to comment
diegovegaz
i saw them talk, arun lal definately has a point ishant would have been too hot to handle on these tracks but, he bowled outside the off stump, and was spanked by jesse ryder and others throughout the tour Link to comment
King Tendulkar
Ishant to be honest was slightly dissapointing this tour. However, he is VERY young and will improve for the experience Link to comment
Guest Hiten.
He had a poor T20, ODI and test outing. Certainly disappointing given that most of our bowlers in our arsenal are either injured or injury prone. ZAK can only do much if he does not find support in his pace bowling partner. Munaf has mood swings and performs accordingly, we cannot rely on him too much. Thank god, for bhajji who gained faith in flighting the delivery. Link to comment
DomainK
I usually mute the tv when Arun Lal and Charu Sharma talk. Link to comment

He is just not cut out for T20, and perhaps not cut out for ODIs too. The requirement is different for those types of matches, no-balls, free-hits, bowling in power plays etc. Even ZK falters there sometimes. I think we should not even be selecting IS in T20 and maybe only limited ODIs for him, just to keep him match fit. Thats all. Yes - he had a pretty poor Test series, hopefully he will bounce back - maybe it was the different ball they use in India vs while playing in NZ. Maybe just he never really hit the stride in NZ. Thankfully, ZK did the job. Link to comment

Show_stopper
An avg of 40 is not what i expected of Ishant..he was mediocre to say the least.About the only time he looked threatening was the first innings of the first Test. Missed a golden opportunity to avg under 30. Link to comment
King
IS was disappointing given the amount of hype he had from all corners prior to the tour. Let alone 5 fers even couple of wickets in an inning looked a tough proposition for IS in this series. He's good no doubt about that but it's possible the instant success and the fame must have not made him desperate or hungry for success. This is where you repect the likes of Rahul, Tendulkar and Laxman a lot. IS had too many attractions outside cricket, they let their hair down and enjoyed their time in NZ for sure :winky: Link to comment

Young and upcoming players less than even 21 are paid $900K and not just money, big fame instantly etc. The hunger and hard work necessary to achieve certain level of success is not required, and 'fame and fortune' comes too easy... Ishant seems to have a level head, and may not be affected by this - don't know. But, for sure this will affect some of the yengsters, and a Dravid or Kumble or Tendulkar may be hard to come by with such instant success formula going around. Link to comment
Zap_Brannigan
Maybe then we should push our youngsters to look for the 10 million mark instead of 1 million. Its all natural selection. Guys who are satisfied with reaching Ranji teams will stay happy there. People who are happy with just making the international team, will be happy by just making the cut. People who want to be the best will strive to get better each year. You can't do much about it. Remember Z khan was as lazy as Ishant/Munaf is now once as well. He got dropped and he worked his way up again. Link to comment

Fontaine
It was his first time bowling into/against the fierce winds in this last test match. Otherwise he was fine in the first two matches. Arun Lal is an idiot. Link to comment

cowboysfan
i think he lost steam in this test-it was evident in the 1st innings and he was completely out of it by the 2nd innings. Link to comment
