Ram Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Guys.. Like me, every member of thios forum is a die-hard indian cricket fan. And most of would agree that cricket for us has long meant Sachin. And now for the first time , in the 18 years of him playing cricket people are actually calling for his head.. Sachin contribution to Indian cricket has been immense. And not just cricket , at times of sorrows his batting genius has provided the nation with something to cheer about. The man deserves the right to choose when he quits and not have others tell him when to do so, honestly. Now we summarily call for his head , but the day when he actually quits cricket ( and that is not too far away) , it will be an occasion of national sorrow. Indian cricket without sachin has an empty feel about it..

Most BCCI babus solely act to satisfy the public. Even if they dont drop SRT, atleast any lingering thoughts of making him captain will vamoose. Besides, this may also fire up SRT for one last time, if not atleast fire up the selectors to serve SRT a notice that his retirement would be forced if his performance is not up to the mark.

There have been very few like him in the past and also will be very few in future too. There is absolutely no doubting that. That said it is a fact he is not the Tendulkar we know of. Run away from the truth it will chase ya relentlessly. Over it this is a team game and no single man is greater than the team or the sport. I agree you have to admire him from what he has given Indian cricket but when he has had less than mediocre years it is all but natural people will point that out. Most of us here don't have any vengeance against him, we all desperately wanted him to do well but he has failed far too often in the last few years and that is a fact whether we like it or not. Every top cricketer has been through this and it is now Tendulkar's turn. Nothing is permanent unfortunately.

Sachin of late has been doing a lot of talking, and sadly if a 50 against bermuda or a lucky 100 against WI is all he can show then maybe its time. Yes Sachin will bounce back, he will have a great series or two but he will never be as consistant as he till 3 yrs ago. I just hope Sachin doesnt become a burden on the team as few past greats.

Rest are all only in the context of us winning games and not embarassing ourselves. Anyways Tendu has given an interview saying he has another 5 more years of cricket in him, whether he perform or not. So, expect people to keep calling for his head another 5 years. :lmao:

It all depends on his body. Didn't see anything wrong with his body this world cup either. The guy is not going to retire on his own anytime soon unless pressured by selectors to do so.

Agreed the top-most pririty must be for the team to win, but sachin's contribution goes beyond alll that. He has been the pride of the nation. For long we could boast of having the best batsmen in the world. Remember how bishen bedi called the " greatest living Indian" after the 1998 Aus series. The only point i am trying to make is -- Dont view sachin's contribution to the cricket team purely interms of his form or the runs he scored. It goes much much beyond that.

I think most of us do have a soft corner for Sachin for all the wonderful moments he has given us in the past but seriously Sachin is really struggling in the last few years and its getting to a point where everyone and their brother(literally!!) are speculating on his future.Now that is simply diluting his legend and it pains to see that.

He is a living legend and there are no two things about it. BUT, his current performances does not merit him a place in the ODI team and he has done no favors to himself or Team India by failing in key matches. Send him back to FC cricket and ask him to get back into the team on the weight of his performances. Werent players like Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman, Kumble all dropped at some point or the other when it warranted? Why the fuss when it comes to SRT? Why the special treatment? :shrug:
