seedhi Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Free gold ring for babies with Tamil names CHENNAI: In a bid to promote Tamil language and culture, the Tamil Nadu government has started a scheme under which babies born in city corporation hospitals would be given a gold ring if they are given Tamil names. "This scheme will be launched from tomorrow to commemorate the 86th birthday celebrations of chief minister M Karunanidhi," Chennai mayor M Subramaniam told reporters here. He said gold rings of one gram would be given to babies within 15 days of their birth after the officials confirmed the birth certificates and submit it for approval. Subramaniam said the CM had been working to promote Tamil language for more than 70 years. "The corporation has introduced this scheme to honour his deeds," the mayor said. Subramaniam said from last September, newborns have been provided with dresses, baby soap and baby powder. "This scheme was inaugurated by deputy chief minister M K Stalin and more than 11,000 babies have been benefited by this," he said. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India/Gold-ring-for-babies-with-Tamil-names/articleshow/4609581.cms And Karunanidhi named his son Stalin!
Sachinism Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Hahaha that is jokes Now we'll have more Indians with impossible to pronounce names
fineleg Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Encouraging tamil names is not a bad thing per se. But people should do it out of their own interest. But this gold ring stuff is just gimmick. If people want to give tamil names to their children, they will. If they dont want to, they just wont - even with these gimmicks.
Zap_Brannigan Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 BS. Discrimination against names now..Brilliant.
flamy Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 And Karunanidhi named his son Stalin! :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
fineleg Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 what exactly is a tamil name? I guess they mean origin of the name is in tamil language, and does not have sanskrit or hindi or other lang as their origin. For example: Shreya/Shweta, Akshay are non-tamil name in the definition they have.
fineleg Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 And Karunanidhi named his son Stalin! Double standards (just as he does in politics). His daughter however has a Tamil name (Kanimozhi) - maybe double standards there too (son/daughter) :winky:

DomainK Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 And Karunanidhi named his son Stalin! Now the next debate will be whether Stalin was of Tamil origin.:D
fineleg Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Southie crap once again :headshake: It is crap, yes - stupid gimmick by politicians. But no need to get regionalistic about it. In fact, politicians in any region of India (or for that matter other countries too) indulge in some crap gimmicks or the other.
Desi Cartman Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 when a country has so many people who cant even get 2 meals a day , its appalling to see that the govt wants to gift gold rings
fineleg Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 when a country has so many people who cant even get 2 meals a day ' date=' its appalling to see that the govt wants to gift gold rings [/quote'] It is called exploitation - something that these thugs and goons we call politicians are adept at. Its good that some of those thugs who tried to get "Cabinet Minister" posts were denied by Manmohan Singh.
