The one true thing about Cricket through is what goes up, must come down and after having a fantastic two years in 50 and 20 over cricket the team was bound to lose sooner or later. Hopefully guys like Raina can work on the short ball because that's been a real weakeness of his for years.

They are a lottery at times. Just enjoy them but dont bulid up hope to much!

But be careful with the decisions and changes .There was a sense of fatigue among him and other players whether he accepts or not.Anyway good luck next time.

Nearly lost final! I never drew too much in to that win apart from the brilliance of yuvraj at smoking the ball. In fact the brillinace of one player carried us in to the final.
The Outsider Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 When Dhoni was made captain, I had made some reservations about a wicketkeeper being the captain of a team. The workload was going to be tremendous and Dhoni coped with it wonderfully well, not only for India but also during the IPL. If you go down the history of cricket there has not been any wicketkeeper who has captained a side for any substantial length of time even though at times one would think that standing behind the stumps and being involved in every delivery while fielding a wicketkeeper would have the best pulse on the game. Dhoni defied all and had a superb run and might still carry on after this minor blip. However, the issue of fatigue is a reality and the mental aspect of the fatigue cannot be overlooked either. Should Dhoni play as a batsman in ODIs and T20s is a question which might have to be addressed sooner than later? There is a sense of jadedness which has crept into his on field captaincy, which really used to be his biggest strength as a captain. He was always one to take some very unconventional decisions most of which would pay off and so cannot be blamed for the ones that did not work, but an example from yesterday was really glaring - Ishant completing his full quota of overs and RP Singh not doing so. Dhoni might have thought that Ishant's third over was reasonable enough and did not go with RP Singh or was keeping RP Singh as a back up for Harbhajan's 20th over in case Harbhajan got smashed in the 18th, but RP Singh was one of the better death bowlers in the IPL and really should have completed out. At the moment, there is no competition to Dhoni as far as captaincy is concerned and he offers a lot of unique and fresh ideas as captain. Indian cricket as a whole must aim to preserve him as captain for as long as they can. If that means changing the structure of the ODI and T20 side to bring in Karthik or another keeper, then so be it. A captain's shelf life is usually 5-7 years in internation cricket based on past precedence but I doubt the beast of burden that Dhoni has become will be able to last that long if more thought is not given to him and his position in Indian cricket.
