Dhoni says sorry

Skipper says sorry after champions exit World Twenty20 competition Last updated: 14th June 2009 Dhoni: Fans apology Cricket never tests your character when you are doing really well. It tests you when you are not doing well. I think this is a testing time for us but it's not the end of the road. India captain MS Dhoni issued an apology to the country's legion of fanatical supporters after the defending champions were dumped out of the World Twenty20 - and insisted they would bounce back. Indian fans packed into Lord's on Sunday to make it like a home game for Dhoni's men, but they lost a tight tussle with England by three runs to crash out of the tournament. Dhoni said that his team were sorry to have been knocked out in front of their fans, but vowed to bounce back at the next Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean next year. "We are sorry for what happened but we can say we gave our best," Dhoni told a news conference. "I think we have the guys who can handle the pressure, it was a day when nothing really worked for us." Point to prove "We can definitely prove a point over there (West Indies). We were never really up to the mark but in nine months time there will be another World Cup and that is the only good thing we can say now. "Cricket never tests your character when you are doing really well. It tests you when you are not doing well. I think this is a testing time for us but it's not the end of the road. "We lost in the 2007 World Cup and we lost in 50 overs, that was the worst part of my career. This loss is disappointing but still I don't think it comes near to the loss we had in the 50 overs World Cup." Dhoni rejected any suggestion that playing in the Indian Premier League in South Africa this year affected his team. "It is a demanding format because you play at different venues, it's not like you play three or four games at the same point," he said. "But I personally believe it's not an excuse."

Messing up selection or batting order or even MSD's own tuk-tuk-tuk batting for one game, two games is ok. If you see IPL-2 CSK matches and now T20 WC, too many games have been messed up by him.

It was related to the topic I was mentioning in my post (number of games where either the batting order strategy or even just the individual's own batting had caused an adverse result to the match).

Sorry is fine, but don't say you gave your best.

^ Yep, this super-8 matches was below par performance from MSD and others too. He cannot say they gave their best. If they did, we'd be in the semis.

^ If you saw the matches, you can see they lacked intensity and focus on the field. You can compare it to how our team plays when they give it their best and show the steely determination. This tournament (esp. Super-8) - certainly they did not give it their best.

Take a break and relax' date=' brah. You have given us a fantastic two years and you will give us a lot more.[/quote'] :congrats: That was very nice of you. No need to apologize M.S. Since you took over the captaincy, you brought us a lot of happy memories, many of which I'll cherish and look back with fondness We understand you tried your best and wanted to win the cup again for India. Alas, it just wasn't our day I just hope these vultures (media, hysterical fans) are a little more caring and appreciate all your hard work and efforts. Even in defeat, my respect for you is as high as ever.

You are well within your rights to criticize the team's performance, but if you are going to say that the team did not give it's best without any concrete proof beyond what you "felt" you should have something more concrete.
