Indian fans are the most immature: Atherton

Recommended Posts

My Italian friend told me that one time, a guy somehow sneaked in a scooter in the stands in a local football game, and then with the help of few others in the crowd, threw the ****ing scooter in the ground. P.S.: I don't know a single person who has ever burnt an effigy, and pretty sure none of you do. ****.S: Atherton is typical British bastard. ****.P.S: Here's looking forward to 3-1 asswhipping of Eng in Ashes.

Atherton is racist/jelous and jack ass. Have started thread about this anti indian **** before. The comparison between indian cricket fans and english football fans is the correct comparasion. And in that respect indian fans look like paragons of virtue compared to the yobs and very immature english fans. eg 1998 world cup. Beckham gets sent off and english fans have dummies of Beckham being hanged. He is boooood and slaughtered by press and media. Makes indian media LOOK SENSIBLE IN COMPARISON!

Not really fair to make a sweeping generalization but Indian fan behavior during this tournament was very poor.
In what respect? Sounds like the worlds commenators are jelous of IPL and how they can be bought by the rupee. It hurts them and they cant face up to it. Also deeply jealous of India world power and success now. Which has also resulted in total domination of world cricket financially. The comms cant handle the mass India support and frankly buying power. They have colonial hangovers and cant face up to the new world order without this bitterness. Exemplified by old school Athers.

Hanging Effigys of Beckham and media posting pictures with dartboard with Beckhams head as a bullseye. VERY MATURE:hysterical: Wonder what that wonderful chap Athers has to say about that?? I can give a thousand more examples of this in english football. Many leading to mass deaths which frankly are not immature but evil yobs. In comparison the odd indian player effigy being burnt by a few media hungry individuals seeems almost amusing and comical in comparison. Any thoughts Athers?:haha:

For example the Indian fans are recognized around the world for creating an electric atmosphere. Take the warm up match against Pak. The energy and fanfare for a warm up match over shadowed some of the regular games and routinely Indian fans outnumbered their counterparts even when we played England. You have to take Atherton's comments and behaviour with a pinch of salt because he's always catering to a different crowd. Specifically Atherton is an old school guy who wants to have a career as a major player in the ECB eventually so a lot of his journalism is geared towards an old world view that the senior heads in the ECB have.

Some of the blind patriotism here is completely misplaced. Atherton is a former cricket player and a cricket writer. Perhaps if someone had asked him of his views on the English football fans his reply would have been similar. But I don't think there is much to argue about that in cricket India have the most immature fans - effigy burning, stoning of cricketers' homes, lighting up torches in a stadium - looks like we've covered most bases. There is simply no point in dragging in football in what is essentially a cricket discussion. Perhaps English football fans are worse, but that really is not the point being discussed here, is it?

With regards to the effigy burning, I want to highlight one specific point. The people who generally burn these effigies, are not real cricket fans at all, they’re just attention seekers. You’ll find that, on most occasions, they’re some youth-wing of some political party/affiliate or some film fan club or some other social organization. They don’t burn effigies because they’re angry at our team (they couldn’t care less how our cricket team does..), they just want to get on the news. And our masala-hungry media readily laps up these sort of ‘news’. If our media chooses to ignore such shameless specimens indulging in such useless acts, these guys would stop doing it too because, without any attention, their whole purpose is defeated. So, technically, Atherton is wrong because the real fans, who follow their team through thick and thin, don’t go around burning effigies. I hope, even if ICF, when sometime in the future some idiot burns an effigy, we all just ignore it.

Yes the real fans set fire to Eden Gardens in Kolkatta during a world cup semi final no less. A World Cup game has been abandoned only once in the history of cricket and it was in India, I am not even sure whether this has happened in any other sport because of crowd behaviour. Pelting the opposition and bringing the game to a stand still till SRT had to plead with the crowd again Kolkatta, Asian test championship Vs Pakistan. Riots outside and in the stadium in cuttack I think since game was abandoned due to poor quality of pitch Vs WI in the 90s, police had to resort to lathi charge. Does anyone want me to continue?

Atherton obviously hasnt been privy to the Barmy Army's theatrics. Not as bad as effigy burning but rowdy drunken louts are pretty bad.
Yep totally immature behaviour by barmy army. In fact they are without doubt the most immature fans in cricket. So many matches away and abroad ruined by there barmy army chants!!! Also remember nastly calling no ball to Lee everytime he bowled. How immature. Ridiculous bare chested beer swilling yobs, with disgusting tatoos. Totally ruining the atmosphere of cricket games. Of course english media will spin this as fun. While indian fans are immature and nasty! Sad thing is most indians will buy in to the rubbish from gora comms. From Nasser the indians cant play pace bakwaas , to Athertons indians are immature fans rubbish. Indians come flocking to support their ex colonial masters to slam the indians. Both Nasser and Atherton have history in in being vitriloic to Indian since they became media people. Clearly ex power houses in cricket simply cant swallow the new world order of indians calling the shots. And their vile outbursts are the side effect!

Brilliant post. Athers is a product of Oxford , Ex-test captain and a chap who has political ambitions. He is obviously in some ways catering to a different audience. But he is not very far from the truth either.

Guys. why do we have to go hissyfit over these remarks. Just brush it off. No big deal. He is kinda stating the obvious while slightly going overboard. Effigy burning, stoning players houses, welcoming team with chappal garland has been going on for years. But Athers has to remember it is because of Indian fans cricket is generating so much money. So give some respect to the passion of Indians.
