Selectors must ignore IPL lottery performances

Recommended Posts

He is hardly class either. He will never be a test players or good odi player. He is just one of those bits and pieces players, joe average who should not be in the team. Want genuine class players
what a pathetic poke outside offstump in second ODI. dsr seems to be right about Ravi Jadeja. As a batsman he is just horrible. If he improves his bowling then maybe he can bat at #8 or something. But not in the top 6.

^ yes, he will probably be given the chances. Thats ok. I just think dsr seems to have gotten this prediction right on Ravi Jadeja that he appears to lack the class to make it at the International level. But, having been selected, he'll get the run to prove himself.

I'll say it again. IPL will eventually kill Indian cricket. The Sachins, Dravids, Sehwags & Laxmans are being replaced by the IPL generation- the Rohits, the Rainas, the Jadejas, the Yousufs- millionaires in the first flush of youth, no hunger, no hard knocks, reared on a bikini version of the game and developing sunburns in the harsh glare of international cricket. One thing common to all of them- no idea how to play fast bowling- expose them to short pitched stuff, and they are toast, giving excuses to commentators to dig up old stereotypes. The situation has got to the stage where Mike Wedderburn of WI descent on SKY asks ironically, "Where does this Indian team stand in international cricket?" You want to know Mike? Third in the Test table by a couple of points behind SA, and joint second in ODIs. Not bad for a side who can't play short pitched bowling, huh? I'll let you in into a little secret though. We didn't get there playing with the muppets that you see in the current side. Take a good look, because you are not going to see them much longer.

Very true :((:((:(( And dont forget burning out Ishant Sharma (in your list above). The hunger and passion for success through hard work and long grind??? IPL == easy truckload of money and instant success for many

Colin Croft: "Give them a bit of bounce...in WI, Australia, even in England..and see them fall apart" You can see how history is being re-written, can't you guys. Beat England in England, Wi in WI, Australia at Perth... all water under the bridge now.

82-8 says it.

Once the legends retire (or stupidly forced out as was in the case of Dravid), then it is going to be a totally different Indian team. Even Bangladesh will fancy their chances against us :(( Long live the culture of cirucs, easy money, and lack of hardwork and grind it out for success

Bishop comes back with the point I made, " They have beaten England in England, NZ in NZ, have competed in Australia, SA, so it's a bit strange that they have failed to play quick bowling here..." Different personnel, Ian, different personnel.

Hey, but the Zintas and Shilpas and King Khans are happy with this (new) personnel.

People like Y Pathan, Jadeja and Nehra in the side based on IPL lottery performances. We know see the result of this selection policy. Total lack of class. Selectors are printing of stats from IPL and picking team based on numbers from that. Also seems they do this with FC cricket stats. As it is patently clear that Jadeja is no were near the class of international cricket but has been picked on number crunching! Although I have no doubts it was his IPL performances that got him the nod and not FC stats

Beautifully said Dhondy, beautifully said. At first, I paid no heed to such warnings and simply rubbished them on the basis of fear mongering, but it is difficult to quarrel with the perspective you've provided. I dont want to believe the IPL is responsible, but *sigh*, as much as it is difficult to accept, there is merit in the argument The question remains as to whether this is just a momentary "blip" or whether this marks the beginning of the trend.

You Jadeja fans in this thread who alll rate him based on some number crunching. What now? Starting agree with me that he is pants. No more IPL lottery players please. Sick of so called limited over specialist players who are simply joe average players and bits and pieces players. For me No Jadeja, Nehra and frankly No Y Pathan(class is just no there).

Jadeja is a talented batsman who can bowl a bit.in the jayasuriya mould. jayasuriya became the real jayasuriya only in 1996 after making his ODI debut around 1989. have the same expectations from the jadeja and you won't be disappointed.but if you think he will emulate jayasuriya in one to three years, you will be.
