ViruRulez Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Frankly speaking after seeing Badri and Vijay I would say maybe UV was not that bad either :P I would like to give chance to Pujara or Pandey now
ViruRulez Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 3 innings and he is done, is he........I wish this was true for many players. Then we wouldn't have to hear about nohit nofit sharma, kholi etc.. Badri has been the best domestic batsman that never got to International team for 9 years. He plays against all the bowlers that eventually has made it to the Indian team , the same bowlers Grame Smith, Ponting, Hussey faces. If we cannot trust our domestic system, then why even bother ? Just one question .. ask yourself and say that is he good enough to replace Sachin, RD, VVS or even Dada.. if a genuine answer is no then we dont need him .. we are not looking for bits a pieces player .. we are looking for 4 test greats who can replace 4 test greats when they have retired (counting that we have not found the idea replacement for even Ganguly till now)
teacup Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Frankly speaking after seeing Badri and Vijay I would say maybe UV was not that bad either :P I would like to give chance to Pujara or Pandey now That is because you didn't see UV face up to Steyn in this series. Remember India's tour to Australia?

Chandan Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 That is because you didn't see UV face up to Steyn in this series. Remember India's tour to Australia? Steyn is not unplayable. Sachin and Sehwag have smacked him for two tons in two matches, VVS hit a ton in the only inning that he played. Even Dhoni hit a big ton. Then why can't we expect our main players to contribute better? And if Badri can't, then it is simple that he doesn't belong there. You're not gonna get 4 test greats' date=' you have to take whoever the best possible replacements are[/quote'] Not 4 greats but at least "potential greats". Whether they become great after that would depend upon their commitment, focus, hunger and temperament for looking to improve after every match. I think India will have a tough time even identifying the correct personnel for the middle order. It is a serious situation and selectors should look ahead to groom these youngsters through A tours to Aus, SA and England. If not, then be ready to see India getting reduced to a one man army (Sehwag this time) once again.

Dhoni, particularly, had a tough time in this series and was clueless against all of the SA pace bowlers, Parnell included. I would put Badri's fighting 56 in the first test match, when India were 56/3 and Steyn in full flow, higher than those two centuries.
teacup Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I don't know if anyone else smelled 'selfish' when Dhoni sent in the nightwatchman, Mishra, only when it was finally his turn to bat after India lost 3 main batsmen just before stumps and could have easily lost Laxman also if Kallis had not dropped him on the 2nd day.

An ugly truth, teacup. But one that not many people will see right away. However before putting all blame on the captain we might have to find out whether it was the batsman's decision to avoid the nightwatchman. This overreaction about Badri after just one bad innings is misplaced and quite a bit alarmist. And we cannot look for another Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid or Laxman. They dont exist. And they are likely not to in the near future. They are once in a generation players. In Tendulkar's and Dravid's case they are probably one of a kind. All the more rarer.

Overreaction it is, alarming it isn't. I would say it is typical. In Badri's case, most forum members had formed an opinion about him before his debut and were only seeking confirmation. As soon as he failed in a couple of innings, those same members have dismissed him as crap.

No need to put down other team members. He will probably be dropped..your ranting here is not gonna matter.

Dude, if you read my post again, I did not put down VVS and Dhoni's centuries but there is no reason to give them more credit than it deserves. As for Dhoni being selfish, it sure seemed like he was to me in that situation. If you disagree, so be it, but you don't seem to have any logic while defending him.
flamy Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I think all teams use night watchmen :dontknow: (now dont tell me that if we have to be number 1 and all that...)
Texan Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 What do you think of S Badrinath Having watched him play now and seeing the way in which he has got out, I won't be surprised if he turns out to be just another domestic run machine unlikely to succeed at the highest level. Too early to say though.

Zap_Brannigan Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Just one question .. ask yourself and say that is he good enough to replace Sachin' date=' RD, VVS or even Dada..[/quote'] Is he better than VVS of now? No way! But he is better than when VVS started. He is better than when dada a few years after his twin 100s against England in his debut series. He is still better than Yuvraj in domestic games. He seems suspect to pace esp inswinging deliveries. Everyone you have mentioned had the same problem. Sehwag was clinically picked up by pace bowlers bowling to his rib cage and having a catcher in the legside. He learned from it and changed. Give him the same leeway that every debutant gets. Not because of his 50 in his first innings when almost everyone else failed but because he was our best batsman in the domestic circuit for so long.
virufan Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 He was 2 nervous to say the least. He looked ill at ease in the crease. Time will tell. Should be persisted for some more matches.
