Pakistan stays away as ICC seals WC venues

http://www.cricinfo.com/wc2011/content/current/story/414436.html Pakistan stays away as ICC seals WC venues Cricinfo staff July 14, 2009 The Pakistan Cricket Board stayed away from a meeting of the 2011 World Cup organising committee that ruled out the possibility of holding Pakistan's matches at a neutral venue and reconfirmed an earlier decision to redistribute those 14 games among India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the other co-hosts. The decisions were taken at a meeting of the ICC event's Central Organising Committee (COC) in Mumbai on Tuesday, to which the PCB had been invited as the fourth co-host. The ICC said a match schedule would be announced in due course and recommendations of Tuesday's communicated to the ICC board. The ICC board had last month asked the organising committee to recommend afresh alternative venues for Pakistan's matches after the PCB challenged the committee's earlier decision to redistribute its matches among the other co-hosts. The organising committee also reconfirmed all the decisions taken at the previous meeting in April, including shifting the event secretariat from Lahore to Mumbai, holding the final in India, the semi-finals in India and Sri Lanka, and distributing the quarter-finals among the three co-hosts with two of those matches going to Bangladesh. "Scheduling for the quarter and semi-finals will attempt to ensure that the host country will play at home should it qualify," the ICC said. "All venues for matches will be confirmed and announced in due course." The organising committee's latest decision effectively puts the lid on Pakistan's hopes of staging at least some of the 14 matches initially allotted to it in a neutral venue, possibly in the Middle East. However, it also paves the way for the PCB to press ahead with its legal challenge against the ICC's decision in April not to hold any World Cup matches in Pakistan due to the prevailing security situation in the country. "We had a good, productive meeting," Prof. Ratnakar Shetty, who was reconfirmed as tournament director, said. "There was a recognition that there is much hard work to be done but we are confident we are now well on the way, with operational plans in place to become effective from the start of August. Moving forward, the COC will meet on a regular basis with everyone committed to a successful event, something we are confident we can achieve."

Predictable. All the empty threats of legal action and all those bakwaas evaporated into thin air.
Pakistan is more than capable of causing gruesome terrorist havoc in vulnerable places like Bangladesh where it has some amount of influnce ...and hence hijacking the WC. I fear for the security in the 2011 WC. Pakistan will do anything and everything in its power to vindicate its stance that all the others hosts are as unsafe.

For one they do not have a solid case. I mean which sane judge will say "OK Pakistan can host the matches". Nobody will. Question is will they award these games to be hosted in UAE by Pakistan -- which sounds insane to me. Worst part of all of this is -- Pakistan is not going to get a penny of its share of the WC fees the 10.5 Million Dollars -- till the case is resolved or even if it loses the case, it stands to lose even that money. But there is also a theory floating -- that -- PCB might not enough money to sustain itself to fight -- which is why the BCCI/ICC is cocky enough to stand up to the law suit.

That is only if Pakis accept the terms and conditions of the ICC, without going to the court. If the case goes to the court -- nothing is valid. Everything is debatable. (At least that is what my understanding has been).

Obviously Pakistan was not going to get a game after the shooting of Sri Lankan team. Even if ICC or BCCI agreed to it how the heck can Pakistan expect the other nations to tour them? If Pakistan can convince a single nation to visit them during the time now and the world cup they will have won they sympathy. Bottom line none of the other nations like to tour Pakistan. I think World cup is a big event and the terrorist groups based in sub continent will be no doubt looking at this event to show their muscle. Here's hoping they get thrashed well before the WC starts. If Pakistan military does decide they can clamp these organizations in no time but if this hasn't happened in the past, it won't happen again. Sadly the entire world is a loser because of Pakistan administration and military's decision not to thrawt the terrorist outfits.

Designed by Australian creative firm Witekite, one of 12 companies from all over the world that submitted concepts, the logo, in the shape of a cricket ball, is intended to reflect all that is best about cricket in the sub-continent - colour, movement and action. And the design is also based on the idea of the supporters and players from the host nations, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, coming together and joining the rest of the world to create a special event.

You can criticise the India media as much as you want, I agree with you they suck, but don't for one minute assume the media in Pakistan is any better, as a matter of fact its much worse. You can carry on living inside your bubble thinking everything is ok with your country, when you know its far from the truth as possible. Pakistan gets blamed because 90% of the time they are behind whatever terrible thing has taken place. You can't even deny your country is obsessed with bringing India down rather than trying to advance itself. I have every right to fear a terrorist attack from someone either born or trained in your country

When you look at a crocodile you never take your eyes off of its jaw? Or maybe Pakistanis do thats why 1/2 your country is gobbled up.

This is what most likely went down, after making that threat of legal action the ICC went to the BCCI, ECB and CA and asked them if there was enough funds to bail them out in the event that this went to the Court of Arbitration in Lausanne. The BCCI in the meantime made good offers of security and warned of unknown consequences should Pakistan even be entertained as a possible host. When the 3 richest bodies said they would back the ICC the ICC went ahead and called the PCB's bluff, the PCB now appears to the world to be a bunch of retarded eunuchs.

MUMBAI - Rumours of Pakistan boycotting the World Cup 2011 are doing the rounds in sports circles. Sources claim that Pakistan government is seriously considering to ask the PCB to pull out from the 2011 World Cup. According to sources, views from influential political figures have been sought in this regard. Interestingly, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still in dark about this latest development. It is very likely that the Pakistan government will convene a meeting with the PCB shortly to discuss the situation. A source close the government, on condition of anonymity, claimed. "I think the Indian government, with the help of the three boards (BCCI, SLC and BCB), is been trying to isolate the PCB and therefore this decision at political level is not ruled out." "On the pretext (government not allowing), the BCCI has not signed the FTP (to play against Pakistan) yet they want to host World Cup matches for Pakistan," he said. The PCB lawyers are silent on this issue as the matter is in the court and it may challenge the decisions taken in this regard.. In the meantime, the BCCI president Shashank Manohar reiterated its stand on not playing bilateral series against Pakistan. "The Indian government is not giving a go ahead about this and therefore we have made no provision in Future Tour Programme (FTP) to play against Pakistan between 2012 to 2020," the 53-year-old Shashank Manohar said. Interestingly, the PCB chief Ijaz Butt has been removed without his knowledge as a convenor from the ICC's Central Organising Committee (COC) for the 2011 World Cup. His place has gone to Mahbubul Alam (BCB).
