hari504504
do you think its about time that selectors acknowledge I.Pathan as a batsman who can bowl and should be incuded in the team as a no.7 batsman who can roll his arm over when needed ... ala Jayasurya and Afridi who started off as 'bowlers' but later turned into 'batsman who can bowl'(debatable in afridi's case)... Its sad pathan rotting in the sidelines when he really is a capable batter considering his exploits with the bat Link to comment

Its sad pathan rotting in the sidelines when he really is a capable batter considering his exploits with the bat Afridi has improved as a bowler overtime where as Pathan bowling declined.Pathan is not serious with his profession. He always says that he has achieved more at the age of 22 or 23 than most people ever dream off. What does he mean?? Other than money he has achieved nothing in cricketing sense. Nobody rates him as a cricketer. He is more interested in cat walks, dance programmes & add shootings than improving his bowling. Link to comment
punjabi_khota
I still think Irfan can come back as a swinging bowler of the past. He is WAY TOO YOUNG to be given up on as a bowler. If you play him as a batsman, he will prolly lose motivation to improve his bowling. Link to comment
Guest Hiten.
Afridi has improved as a bowler overtime where as Pathan bowling declined.Pathan is not serious with his profession. He always says that he has achieved more at the age of 22 or 23 than most people ever dream off. What does he mean?? Other than money he has achieved nothing in cricketing sense. Nobody rates him as a cricketer. He is more interested in cat walks' date= dance programmes & add shootings than improving his bowling. What makes you say that ? Being a professional cricketer, it does not necessarily mean he has to be working on his cricket 24/7. Some recreational time is required to get your mind off cricket and if IKP eases his mind with 'cat walking' (in your terms :hehe:) so be it. Besides, cameras are not present in the National Academies for you to see him practicing harder than ever, are there ? Adding the burden of batting on his young shoulders detracted him away from bowling and this is exactly why the selectors needn't take him in the team based on his batting exploits. He needs to be told about his role: which is bowling all rounder. In IKP, I trust. Off topic: Where exactly did you get the idea of Afridi's bowling "improving" ? He has always been a "matching winning bowler" against the minnows and at best he is a mediocre against top dogs. (ODI's) In 2006, Afridi averaged 40 (barring Scotland)...his opponents India, SL, Eng, WI, NZ) In 2007, Afridi averaged 36 (barring Zim)...his opponents RSA, SL and Ind In 2008, Afridi averaged 52 (barring BD and ZIM)... his opponents were India, SL, WI In 2009, Afridi averages 30 ...his opponents Aus and SL So whereever, you got the idea of "Afridi has improved as a bowler overtime" is hoax and perpetuated by those "beastly slain lovers". Sooda
Im a big fan, do hope he comes back to some sort of bowling form. Its a sad case of what might have been when you look at how good he was when he came on to the scene- that searing yorker to get Gilly? Langer? in Aus. Heck even as recently as the last tour of Aus wasnt he MOtM in the test we won? That guy has lots of potential we juist need to nurure him properly. He was awesome for a while under Chappel when we were in cracking ODI form and Pathan was very much central to that success taking early wickets and chipping in with useful runs often at no.3. hari504504
He should be teamed up with Yusuf pathan as an ODI finisher...He can also pace his innings and do some damage control if we lose too many wickets early-on in an innings.. His bowling should only be treated as a "good thing to have"...If sreesanth makes his comeback..then we don't really have a dearth in pacers Link to comment
Lord
totally agree with the OP,Irfan is our best allrounder n should always be picked.its sad people remember his bowling failures n forget his batting heroics with the excuse of 'oh his primary role is bowling'.irfan can used as a batsman who can bowl .hes not a slogger n is reliable enuf to consolidate wen we need to Link to comment
