TaNk
Dhoni says Sehwag recuperating fast Kolkata, Aug 14 (ANI): Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said that the swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag, who is recuperating from a shoulder surgery, was shaping well and should be available for next month's Champions Trophy. Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Dhoni said, 'Sehwag is improving everyday. As we are talking he is putting an effort to get ready for the Champions Trophy. But whether he will be available for Sri Lanka or not it is too soon to say right now. If he is available it will be great for us, batsman like him on the top of the order opening the innings." Media was rife with speculation of a rift between Dhoni and Sehwag during the Twenty20 World Cup played in England from June 5-21 when it was announced on June 9 that Sehwag would return without playing a match due to his shoulder injury. Dhoni has however denied any differences with Sehwag. The Indian cricket board has asked Sehwag to report back by August 15 to consider his fitness for the upcoming series. Champions Trophy would be played in South Africa from September 22 to October 5. India has named its regular opening pair Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar in the preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy. Veteran batsmen Rahul Dravid also marks a surprising comeback after almost two years. India's next assignment is a triangular one-day series involving hosts Sri Lanka and New Zealand from September 8 to14 followed by the Champions Trophy in South Africa from September 22 to October 5. Jai Ho
boys I dont like our chances if Sehwag doesn't play. Who is the backup? Link to comment
undisputed
Hope Sehwag plays i haven't seen him in ages i always like seing his inning's because you know he is going to blast while he is there regardless of the format, plus it would only make a pak v india match bigger knowing sehwag going to give the charge to our bowlers but also expose the chance of letting us take his wicket. TaNk
Sehwag willing to play waiting game Injured India opener Virender Sehwag said on Friday that his recovery from a shoulder surgery was on track, but that it could take time before he hit the cricket field again. "My shoulder is better than before," Sehwag said at a function in the Capital. "It takes time to recover from any surgery. If that (recovery) takes time, I can't help it." Sehwag was injured during the Indian Premier League's second season in South Africa and missed out on the Twenty20 World Championships and India's trip to the West Indies that followed soon after. The Indian team for the Sri Lanka tri-series and the Champions Trophy will be picked on Sunday. Link to comment
