Ian Pont Posted October 3, 2009 Author Posted October 3, 2009 Wonder if he EVER planned to play competetive cricket or he knew he couldnt and wanted to make the most out of the 15 mins he got now. He certainly seems to be training HARD, and is quite articulate with his english, dosent seem to be discovered from a village in the middle of nowhere like Munaf In any case he would have had to spen at least one year in Ranji cricket, and he seems like a big, very well built lad but bowling long spells in the heat and maintaining even a 85mph+ pace is a different kettle of fish entirely and... well.. maybe he decided he couldnt. You got that SOOOOO right!
Mr. Wicket Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 So how much of this "article" was actually true, Ian? http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=151019&highlight=atul+sharma "Ian Pont - Atul bought my book, The Fast Bowler's Bible, and then contacted me after having read it. He flew in from India via the US, where he waited tables to earn enough money to pay my coaching fees! When I first saw Atul he was a front on bowler. Within 4 days we had him bowling side on to access his power." What about the so-called media embargo? If the Royals confirm he never signed a contract with them, why was he listed in their squad on Cricinfo at one point, and later why was no comment made at all in the media re. this? I also recollect you telling us the reason he wasn't playing was because he had a shoulder injury or some other such problem. That doesn't correlate to the RRs saying he never turned up!
msb1991 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I understand the fraud and all, that is pretty simple theft. However, I don't get why he'd train for 3 years for 15 minutes of pretty minor fame. Also Ian, now that all ties are cut, any chances of some videos of him bowling at full tilt or are they more out of the question now than before?

I also recollect you telling us the reason he wasn't playing was because he had a shoulder injury or some other such problem. That doesn't correlate to the RRs saying he never turned up! It's all true. Once he was named as a RR player no one wanted to upset them by doing interviews after that point, hence the embargo out of courtesy to the RR media machine. He was named in the IPL by Mr Modi as a RR player, but at that point had not put pen to paper with RR - and never did. He got injured 2 weeks before the RR squad flew to South Africa with a slap leasion tear of the bicep. This usually requires surgery. It's a similar injury to the one that recently kept Maria Sharapova out of tennis for 9 months. That's why he never showed up. He was told only to come if he was fit to play. The RR disowned him when he didn't show up. But he was already named in the IPL squads for 2009 as a RR player. It was Mr Modi rather than RR, who placed him in the IPL. But RR didn't really want to have anything to do with him, and they certainly didn't get involved with any of his coaching, rehab or training. This is why they are not counting him as their player.
EnterTheVoid Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 HMMMM.... if I didn't know better' date=' I would say that sree_india is Atul Sharma in disuguise - or someone who knows him. Not only using phrases the same, but also the angle he's coming in from on this story. Well Atul, if this is you listen up. My lawyers are tracking you through your US network (Aunt), IMG and Jeff Gorski and no hiding behind turned off and discontinured cell phones will protect you. I have someone in India RIGHT NOW looking for you. So keep looking over your shoulder. :hysterical: Pont thinks I am Atul Sharma. This geezer has lost his marbles :whine:

MSB...to THIS day, I have never seen Atul bowl at full tilt. Others have... his javelin coach in the US told me about the 100 mph hand release speeds for example, and Atul himself has been quoted in Spin magazine mentioning those speeds. But I have not witnessed him flat out, but I have seen some clips from the US supposedly showing it. So I perosnally do not have video footage of him flat out. We should have done, but he got injured crucially just as he was about to prepare to join the RR. That's why I flew out to South Africa and spent time with him and it's the part he owes me for. And he never wanted to go up against a speed gun when I worked with him. Make of all that what you will.
EnterTheVoid Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Send your chronies after me Pont. I could use some publicity ! :hysterical:

EnterTheVoid Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Ok. One final thing, Ian, I am NOT Atul Sharma
riya Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Thank God, the it is closed. Please don't ever make another thread on this guy. But I know this would pop up again!

Ian I think in all posts and interviews etc., you mentioned that he bowls at that speed. So, if you have never used a speed gun or never seen him bowl at full tilt, how is it that you knew his speed. I dont think you will believe a javelin coach and make out his bowling speed from his statement. Anyways javelin and cricket are hot related at all :hmmm: Moreover, it is also quite surprising that in 3 years of training you have never seen him bowl at full tilt. I am not into real cricket and so I dont know much but all these things are confusing me even more. Anyways best of luck for the future.

Anyway that's another story... as for the speeds, they are reported back to me by Atul himself and his other coaches so I take them as the speeds he has bowled. I live in the UK, not India or the USA, so have to trust the judgement of others on these matters.
Dinx - the Jinx Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 now i have a doubt whether this dude who is posting here under the name "Ian Pont" s Ian Pont indeed... if he wants to b!tch about Atul, why is he doing it here on ICF, of all the places in the world.. Add to it, the no. of inconsistencies in what he claimed before and what he is telling now. I seriously feel that this is not real Ian Pont posting here. 1. he said before that Atul waited tables to earn money to use Ian Pont's services as a coach. so it means Ian Pont is a tough cookie who takes his fee before offering any sort of service. So how on earth Atul could con him? 2. In earlier posts here (I havent seen any interview by Ian Pont on Atul sharma anwhere else on the internet other than ICF), he has claimed that Atul Sharma has been touching those high speeds very consistently. Now he says he has never measured him using a speed gun. WTF? And he says Atul never wanted to come under a speed gun.. this is hilarious.. why on earth an aspiring phaasht bowler refuse to measure his speed? All these points make me think that more than Atul Sharma, the dude posting here as Ian Pont is fake.. something like what HariSampath did sometime back.. Anyways.. if all you others still want to believe in all these crap, please go ahead. But please move this thread to joke section and discuss, as there is no cricket involved in this thread. its only mystery, fraud, and sherlockholmes stuff..
