Here are Australia's next few series: West Indies 3 tests at home Pakistan 3 tests at home N.Z. 3 tests away Bangladesh 2 tests at home Pakistan 3 tests in England England 5 tests at home Does anyone know who India are playing next? It may be an interesting next few 18 months, I would be keeping an eye on both of them!

But no one considers any of these players greater than Bradman, do they? Same with Sachin - he's in a different league of his own, whether he has the highest # of runs or not.

There is a windfall after that though : 4 against WI 4 against England 3 against WI 4 against Australia I think Tendulkar will retire after the '11-'12 series in Australia.

Don't get me wrong, you make a good point, I personally do think Tendulkar is the greatest batsman behind Bradman but I don't think the difference is as big as Indians will make it out to be. Tendulkar has more natural talent, but I think as have been shown in other threads Ponting performs better in "big match" situations, I think that is fair to say. Anyway, this debate is very old now and will roll on and on, at the end of the day it comes down to personal opinion.

I think Ponting is a stunning batsman, and would love to watch him take apart the English bowling (and the SA bowling) any day. :D And, wrt to the big match situation, there's a bit of controversy on that due to external factors that affects Sachin's batting (like chasing 360 vs. McGrath and co. under lights as opposed to pulverising Srinath and Zaheer on a flat bed), whatever else. As you said, its upto personal opinion (unless of course, you're awfully biased like some). But its been great watching guys like Ponting and Sachin, et.al. all play in the same time period.
Captain of Bhangra Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Ponting will end his career with more Test Hundreds than Sachin, but all non-Australian/non-Pakistani cricket fans will take into account the fact that Sachin regularly faced McGrath, Warne, and other world class Australian bowlers in his career, and never got to pound mediocre Indian bowlers into submission, both of which gave Ponting a much bigger advantage...
