Can Yuvraj overtake Tendulkar and others as India's all time best ODI batsman?

Dhoni, Azhar, Ganguly, Sehwag, Yuvraj are all in the running for the number 2 spot. I would rank them as : Dhoni Ganguly Azhar Yuvraj Sehwag

Well, we all can pretty much agree upon who the big daddy is. :phehehe: But for the 2nd spot, it’s a really close call. Trying to separate Ganguly and Yuvraj is like trying to split hairs. At the moment its probably a tie between Ganguly and Yuvraj for the 2nd spot, with Dhoni fast catching up with them. Ganguly may have scored more runs than Yuvraj, but he did bat up the order, which is a HUGEEEEEEE advantage in ODIs.

Ganguly still at number 2 though Dhoni has a pretty good chance to take over the spot. I don't think that Yuvraj is there yet. Once he gets on a run, he backs it up with a lot of good scores but he isn't consistent enough day-in and day-out. To be in the top 3, you need to be.

I would put Yuvraj a bit ahead of Dhoni in race to topple Ganguly from no. 2 position. Sehwag has left the race and Azhar has been left behind.

azhar shud be excluded because against the genuine pace and especially vs pre-1991 WI, he was doubtful. ganguly's record vs the best ,australia also goes against him. yuvraj can be the clear no 2, provided he performs better vs australia in the coming years. he had a lean run against them recently. dhoni not the same game changer as yuvraj.

Yuvraj is no2 no doubt..He already has 7 man of the series, man of the tournament in the worldcup and 25 man of the matches and compared to GANGULY, he comes at #5 whereas Ganguly opened. Ganguly has 31 moms and 6 man of the series but Yuvraj will easily get mroe than 6 moms in his future career wheras he is already ahead on the mos and has a worldcup. It isnot fair to include number of runs and centuries because THEY BAT AT DIFFERENT POSITIONS but even then Yuvraj can overtake that if he keeps good form for a few more yrs. AND Yuvraj has a much betetr STRIKE RATE which is very important in odis to win matches I dunno why someone would suggest Azhar and Sehwag in same league as Yuvi in odis. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Only Tendulkar beats Yuvraj and Ganguly comes close.

If you talk about impact (which cannot be quantified anyways) Dhoni himself has said that he started playing cricket due to Sachin, you cannot have a bigger impact than inspiring players like Dhoni, Sehwag etc

you are right, it cant be quantified. Though I was talking in terms of dhoni's captaincy n wicket-keeping contribution , not about inspiring people to pick up cricket... dhoni's 6 yrs is probably equal to sachin's 10 yrs imo... anyways, it was off-topic, so no further replies on that...
