The criticism that Dhoni comes to bat at number after get a good start is a little OTT. Dhoni has batted at no. 3 on 5 occassions out of the 69 matches he's been captain in. 1.http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/386533.html We were 14/1 when he came to bat, scored 94 in 96 balls, we scored 332 and won by 67 runs. 2. http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/366623.html We were 69/1 in 11 overs, scored 84 in 89 balls, we 273 in 38 overs, won by 53 runs. This was the 1st ODI of the NZ series after we had lost the 2 t20s losing a bunch of wickets in first 6-7 overs trying ti hit everything out of the park. He came at no 3 in this match and then even when we got good starts in the kater matches didnt come, perhaps his way of telling his batsmen to play with some patience and esnure they make use of a good start. 3. http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/377315.html We were chasing 160 in 22 overs, were 84/1 after 10 overs, MSD scored 46* in 34 balls and we won. This was after the 2nd ODI in WI where we were 95/8 at one stage. 4. http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/403383.html We were 95-1 in 18 overs, dhoni scored 56 in 62 balls, we scored 319 and won by 46 runs. This was after the dead rubber between Ind-SL when both had qualified and we had failed to chase 300 plus total by SL. 5. http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/430886.html We were 153/1 in 20 overs, dhoni scored 72 in 53 balls, we made 414 and won by 3 runs. Again the 1st match of a series after the no 3 hadnt done too well in 5-6 games of the previous series. Now 5 times out of 69 ( out of which we have got great starts in most of the matches) isn't being selfish but rather being smart enough to ensure we use our resources wisely and get a win for the team. In any case, all 5 occassions, we won the match and there shouldnt be any complaints on that.

No I can assess from cricinfo and the amount of high scores he has batting at the position of his choice that he plays for himself to improve his average. Doesn't care for the team :hitler:

In todays game, Dhoni found out that the start wasnt good.So lets just send in Gautam in to face the moving ball(evenb though its only for 5 to 6 overs) and let him survive the tougher part, i will come when there is absolutely nothing in the pitch for anyone and score a 50 to get my average bossting everytime

Today without Yuvraj and without a blazing start from Sehwag, he was really needed to shepherd the young MO - Kohli, Raina and Jadeja. I am glad he didn't come when the ball was moving. Are you a pakistani? :hehe:

On numerous occasions I have seen Dhoni not coming in at no.3 when the 1st wicket falls quickly, but nearly always comes to the crease when there's a good start. I ve observed that both as an Indian and a CSK fan. I dont complain, for if he does well then no probs, in whatever position he comes. But, IMO its not fair enough to get the best of a good start but let the others face the music when the going gets tough. I think Dhoni should always come in at no.3(whether its a good start or not, I wont blame him even if he gets out early-its part and parcel of the game) or come in at 5 always.

There is no problem with Dhoni coming anywhere in the order, but everyone should get a fair chance of playing on a good track/ after a good start. I dont see any reason why a Raina cant play as well as Dhoni by coming in at 3 after a good start.

Wrong objective. The objective is the score runs and win the match. Individual objectives can go to hell. It's never about what best position can be served to a player. It's always about at what position players can best serve the team.
