Btw the lyricist Shahryar passed away last week.
Didnt know that. His work in Umrao Jaan was terrific. The songs were awesome. Khayyam's work was terrific (which he has typically been when given great lyrics to work with). However it is one of those movies whose songs I remember more for stanzas instead of the entire song. Which shows how awesome Shaharyaar's work was. Tamaam umr ka hisaab maangti hai zindagi ye mera dil kahe to kya..ke khud se sharamshaar hai (from Ye kya jagah ha doston) Tujhko ruswa na kiya, khud bhi pashemaan na huye ishq ki rashm ko is tarah nibhaaya humne (from Justzoo jiski thi) Another of his great work QzoGs8qwimo It has the same kinda affect.... Dil hai to dhadhakne ka bahana koi dhoonde pathar ki tarah be-his-o bejaan sa kyun hai? :bow::bow::bow::bow:

Lurker if you enjoy his ghazals then you should look up the music for the movie "Anjuman". The movie was never released but its music is out there on youtube. Shahryar wrote some of the lyrics, music by Khayyam and Shabana Azmi sang 3 of the songs along with Khayyam himself and his wife Jagjit kaur.

Wow ..Just wow..Early 80s was the best period of Hindi Cinema... This is from Bazaar isn't it.. Rekha had such screen presence..Most actresses of today look like girls,she was a woman

Its from Gaman Yoda. Jaydev-Shaharyaar combination churning the music. Jaydev received the National Award for this movie. Another great song from this movie, Chaya Ganguly's Aapki Yaad aati rahi raat bhar. mlFXtzd4o38 Bazaar is of couse a classic. So many can be written about it, not the least of its music. Khayyam does the wondeful part in creating timeless music, but his awesomeness lies in the fact that he takes a backseat and let the lyrics run the show. Since many of the songs are classic by Mir and Makhdoom music was only icing on the cake.

She was, wasnt she? There is something very ethereal about her. Beautiful, seductive and yet graceful...very feminine.
