I actually rate Irfan Pathan's batting talent very highly. Technique is reasonably good. I think he can be a very competent NO. 7 batter. He's got good temperament in batting and can play the big shots when required. IMO, Irfan must be given a run in the Saffie ODI series next month, purely because of his batting talent.

But looking at his ODI record, he averages under 25 in 40 innings at an unexcusable strike rate of 72. He neither steals quick singles to keep the score board ticking nor does he play the big shots to release pressure. He's been given plenty of chances. I have never watch him in Ranji/Duleep trophy to see how he paces his innings in the longer format. But looking at him in the ODI format , I think we have far better all round packages at our disposal.
