Keeper Gautam and offie Ashwin are batting and are the top scorers for the match. Mukund 13, Uthapa 19, Karthik arun 8, Badri 9 and Pandey 10 ---these are the scores of SZ batsmen. These guys can't handle new ball from Praveen Kumar and RP Singh and we are talking about including them in the test XI!!

They did handle them pretty well on these two occasions, Match 1 Match 2 I think the bowlers deserve some credit for bowling well, atleast from the cricketnirvana commentary I guess its good bowling rather than poor batting.

Pitch Shane! The difference is the pitch. Meerut pitch was absolutely flat while this pitch supposedly had some life. Secondly, if PK's and RPS's bowling is too good for them, remember what will happen against Steyn, Morkel and co! As much as I have watched them, I'm not impressed with the technique of even one of above 5 batsmen. So I have no hope from them, even if Srikanth chooses them in the test squad! We need to have A tours to Australia, SA and England to know the true woth of these batsmen.

Can't comment on the pitch, since I haven't watched the action today, but from I saw yesterday wasnt much different than most of our Ranji pitches. Its definitely not like the one prepared in Mysore for the Final, so when a batsman gets a 150 on that pitch, I think its worth getting him in the 'A' Tour's scheme of things. About playing in the SA series, cant see any of them getting a game, even if one of them gets picked in the squad.

Praveen Kumar rocks South with an incisive spell An incisive spell by Central Zone seamer Praveen Kumar rocked South Zone on the second day of the Duleep Trophy semifinal at the Maharani Usha Raje cricket stadium here on Wednesday. More... Praveen Kumar rocks South with an incisive spell Vijay Lokapally INDORE: An incisive spell by Central Zone seamer Praveen Kumar rocked South Zone on the second day of the Duleep Trophy semifinal at the Maharani Usha Raje cricket stadium here on Wednesday. His five for 48 left South Zone at 254 for eight in pursuit of Central Zone’s first innings total of 333. South did extremely well on Wednesday morning as Central, resuming at 300 for seven was restricted to 333. Piyush Chawla remained unbeaten on 90 even as R. Vinay Kumar claimed all the three wickets to finish with five for 102. Vinay showed the spirit to fight with the bat too as he compiled an unconquered 44 to keep South’s hopes alive. Some divine rhythm was all that Praveen Kumar needed for Central Zone to stay in command against South Zone on the second day of the Duleep Trophy semifinal. And the right-arm medium-pacer got it right from the very first ball, as he picked up four wickets to destroy the South Zone batting line-up. Openers Abhinav Mukund (13), Robin Uthappa (19), A. Karthik (8) and skipper S. Badrinath (9), all became victims of Praveen. In his 13-over spell from the Pavilion End, Praveen showed a beautiful blend of in and out-swingers and sent back half the South Zone team. He finished the day with five for 48. "Barring one session, the wicket was helping and I made full use of that," said Praveen. Earlier, Central Zone, from their overnight score of 300 for 7, added 33 more to put on a total of 333. Piyush Chawla remained unbeaten on 90 but did not get much support to complete his century. South Zone, who lost their top-order early, had more disappointments to handle, as their last hope, Manish Pandey, got a leg-before decision off Pankaj Singh, leaving the scorecard reading 65 for 5. Playing true to its nature, the wicket at the Usha Raje Stadium saw copious movement in the first and post tea sessions because of which RP Singh fetched the wickets of C. Gautam (52) and R. Ashwin (58). Gautam and Ashwin stayed in the middle for 113 minutes to stitch a crucial 108-run partnership for the sixth wicket that paid off for South as they finished the day on 254 for 8. “No doubt Praveen bowled well but our batsmen should have shown some application. They just threw away the wickets,” said South coach Sanath Kumar even as he confided the team had decided to watch out for Praveen. “We knew we had to see him off,” said Sanath. But Praveen had his own plans. He bowled with a lot of zest to make the best of the conditions. He packed off the first four batsmen with his late movement leaving the batsmen frustrated. Pankaj Singh trapped Manish Pandey in front to break the back of South’s batting. “I know bowlers have apprehension working with the Kookaburra ball but I was happy with the early swing that I got. I knew it was my day and I just let myself go. I enjoyed bowling on this pitch,” said Praveen. Some of his deliveries flashed past the batsmen before South was saved by a sixth-wicket stand of 108 between C.M. Gautam (52 with nine fours) and R. Ashwin (58 with ten fours) before both fell in succession. C. Ganapathy chipped in with a responsible 33 but perished at the *** end of the day. Vinay (44 with six fours and one six) was left holding the fort in the company of S. Jakati.

Viswanath Rajkot: Powered by Abhishek Nayar’s 259 (28x4s, 5x6s) and Ramesh Powar’s 109 (13x4s, 1x6) West Zone imposed itself upon North Zone in their Duleep Trophy semifinal at the Race Course Ground here on Wednesday. The face off between these two zones, that many years ago was a much awaited event in the domestic calendar, has of late been dominated by the home team. Unyielding with the bat for 11 and half hours, West raised a monumental 769. Later its seamers dispatched three top North batsmen for just 36 runs. West’s efficient work in the first two days has virtually assured itself of a place in the final to be played in Hyderabad. Showing no nerves at the departure of Shikhar Dhawan, Ravi Inder Singh and Rahul Dewan, North skipper Virat Kohli displayed exquisite skill and power of back play against Irfan Pathan in the time he spent in the last half hour on the second day. Two remarkable shots that split the off side fielders and a squeezed shot that raced to the mid wicket fence mirrored the potential of the young right hander. Kohli may proceed to exhibit attractive shots and make an impact when play resumes on Thursday, but his best undertaking would leave only a notable credit against his name in the score sheet and leave his team far short of the considerable total West has posted on the score board. Earlier in the day, North made some headway with the second new ball dismissing Ravindra Jadeja for 61 and Irfan Pathan for 5. But in the absence of appreciable lift and lateral movement the ball begged to be hit on a featherbed of a wicket. Under the circumstances Kohli understood the futility of running down his seamers by way of extended spells, but the shift from seamers and spinners, specialists and part time, did not prevent the supply of runs. West made 163 in the first session during which North touched the magic mark of 37 overs and exceeded the over rate by tea time. The left-right combination in Nayar and Powar delivered 197 runs for the eighth wicket. Coming to bat at No. 9 Powar demonstrated his capability with the bat scoring an aggressive 109 in a little under three hours off 154 balls. Nayar achieved personal milestones in the course of his partnership with Powar and thereafter with Dhawal Kulkarni (114 for the ninth) and eventually fell after a near eight hour tenure in the middle.

Really can't see SZ progressing from here..their batsmen let them down big time. Most prolly CZ v/s WZ for the final.
SZ conceded 38 runs lead to NZ 295 allout ...currently NZ 55/3 (Vinay 2 , Mithun 1)... Hope for a good Match... But biggest problem is Back-up bowlers to these 2..Same problem karnataka faced in last few matches of Ranji. (u have to give to badri's Brain..CZ is introuble after losing 3 quick wkts and he gave bowling to Uttappa ....3 overs 20 runs :hatsoff: )

SZ's backup bowlers are crap. As usual Mithun and Vinay getting early wickets and once they are taken off, batsmen making merry.

how good is Ganapathy?i have only seen him batting n looks good.hows his bowling?
He is bad. Can't bowl faster than 115-117 and has nothing which can make you even pay attention to him. Even Mithun has to work hard on his action and delivery stride. Very disappointed to see India's future seamers!!

Ganapathy is a utility cricketer. He can get into the mid 120s with his pace and actually can utilize the new ball somewhat effectively in good conditions. Plus he is a decent bat increasing his utility value. All in all a good domestic prospect. May not be of international quality. He is certainly no trundler. I have seen him bowl mean bouncers even on docile Chennai tracks. Plus he moves the ball both ways apart from being able to use the older ball reasonably well too. ________ Bong Reviews
