The Outsider
His first over was the fastest one I have ever witnessed. Every delivery seemed like it will rip our poor fragile players apart. It was really exciting to watch him bowl. Yeah too bad the poor fragile players always originate from Paki land - when the speed demon came up against a proper batting line up he retired from test and first class cricket, but your team would be well aware of it through the likes of Waqar, Akram, and Saqlain. Watson87
I saw the highlights, he has some serious pace, a small flick can be a six of his pace, Ganguly would never want to bat against him lol. I remember when Akhtar used to get Ganguly to the floor, but I think a major injury is heading towards Tait. Also I reckon he chucks the ball Link to comment
hari504504
Also I reckon he chucks the ball He has one of the cleanest actions around... :hmmm:.If you think he chucks..then the same would hold for Malinga and Fidel who also bowl with the low slinging action Link to comment
thevortex
lol' date=' Viru will make him p!ss in his panties, anyways I think Nannes was the better out of the two and I am also not too certain about the speed gun used, or atleast the numbers that were displayed.[/quote'] I agree. Dirk Nannes is a fast bowler's dream. Left handed, easy run up, easier action and wham - the ball whizzes by at more than 150 clicks! Plus he can seam the ball around. Australia are missing a trick by not having him in their Test team. Link to comment

vvvslaxman
Why can't they lend some fast bowlers to us. Nannes, Harwood, Harris for Tests. Anyway they don't play them. Link to comment

hari504504
If India gets a genuine quick right about now(someone who hits those speeds and ahem..importantly stay there instead of tapering out..).. He could arguably be a bigger phenomenon in the country than Tendulkar..... Link to comment

I would have pencilled in Nannes name ahead of all the others mentioned. Thats how good a bowler I see him to be. Johnson alone might have the wood on him with his batting abilities. But as a pure bowler, Nannes is right up there as far as Australia is concerned. Of course one has to see him at Test level to make a more rounded judgment. Link to comment

COMPLETELY AGREE.for some reason,Aussie selectors have labelled him as T20 specialist.Atleast hes better than guys like Clint McKay n Harris Link to comment

And nothing which anyone says can change the fact that this is one thing we really lack in. Population of over a billion and not one 150ks bowler is shameful for me atleast. Having said that, its really admirable to see the guys give it their all while bowling despite the obvious limitations Link to comment

No idea about whether he might tend to get injured, but his action has no problems whatsoever. He is a slinger - that is all. Link to comment

achilles
^ We are a nation waiting eager in anticipation for a 150ks pacer to come along. There are very few which don't share this sentiment, but the majority want a pacer who can bowl raw pace, get the batsman jumping around, hit on the helmet and exchange juicy pleasantries on the follow-through on a regular basis. The Tendulkar thing is something we need to wait for it to role itself out. But I'll add one more thing. When Kapil Paaji and Sunny Sir came along, no one thought anyone could EVER supersede them. But Sachin came along. Moral - Time keeps changing and new heroes keep coming along. Link to comment

When Tendulkar hangs up his boots, just you wait and see how they erect new mountains:). Not that I think anybody like him can come along in the near future. Link to comment
achilles
Thank you. I am eternal optimist about new heroes coming along coz we are such an awesome nation, diverse society, that we produce one hero after another. And its amazing, the rate at which we produce superstars for the game of cricket. Link to comment

I don't have a problem with the anticipation, for all you know we might find somebody who breaks the 150k barrier, but knowing Indian conditions he might not keep it up for long. Longer than the current bunch may be but still will soon break down. Anyway that digressing from the point I made earlier about there never being a phenomenon again like Tendulkar. Kapil & Sunny are legends of the Indian game, there were others that came after them and there will be more that will come in the future but there will be none that will be bigger than SRT..atlease not in our life time. It is about the Indian concept of phenomenons. What I was pointing out and probably what Achilles was too was that the Indian media machine would waste no time in building new monuments for new superstars. Out of sight, out of mind it will be. Yes, even for Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. I absolutely dont anticipate seeing a better or more committed cricketer in my lifetime. But who knows? One always lives for surprises. The better kind, obviously :) Link to comment
