:hysterical: Seriously, Indian seniors look good for couple more years. By the time he will be 31. So he had to make a very big statement against South Africa. I do not think Karthik will consider him as a threat. Infact Karthik's threat will be Vijay more than Badri.

Well, I dont think there was too much that Karthik did wrong. The team was going great guns and they needed attacking batsmen to come in. Sathish was a hitter and he got in ahead of Badri. I did not see anything wrong in that. If anything I have noticed this tendency to handle Badri poorly in Dhoni. Not in Karthik. By the way, right now, as far as pecking order is concerned, Karthik is way ahead of Vijay as well as Badri. He is also in the form of his life.

Bengal bowlers had one of their worst days in office as Tamil Nadu retained the national one-day championship title for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. They won the final by 29 runs at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. For Bengal, it was a hattrick of losing one-day finals. In all, they have lost five national level finals (including two Ranji Trophy) in the last five years. Dinesh Karthik's superb performance with the bat extended Tamil Nadu's supremacy in the Vijay Hazare Trophy — India's premier one-day competition — for another year. Arriving at the wicket after Murali Vijay was superbly held by Manjoj Tiwary at mid-off, the determined Tamil Nadu captain danced down the pitch and punched seamer Ashok Dinda straight down the ground for a thundering four. He then came up with a commanding, power-packed display to take his side to 379 and secure the title for the second year running by 29 runs. Karthik's big hitting, after he promoted himself in the order, confirmed the terrific form he has been enjoying in the ongoing season. On a wicket where controlled bowling and smart fielding could have restricted the Tamil Nadu batsmen around 340, Bengal bowlers gave away as many as 71 runs during the five batting Powerplay overs. Seasoned pro Ranadeb alone gave away 39 runs in two overs (14 and 25) during that phase. Save Manoj Tiwary, who saved at least 25 runs on the field including a good catch to dismiss Murali Vijay (103), the Bengal fielders were sloppy to say the least. Useful contributions It was Aniruddha Srikkanth who started off attacking Ashok Dinda (1/72 from 10 overs) straightaway. Vijay, who made a quiet start at the other end, started playing his shots once Srikkanth was castled by a Saumya Pakre’s arm-ball. Vijay was joined by in-form batsman Abhinav Mukund (75) and the pair added 120 runs in only 18.1 overs before the India batsman miscued a lofted shot to be caught at mid-off by Tiwary off Pakre’s bowling. The mayhem however didn’t stop as skipper Dinesh Karthik (88, 47 balls, 11x4, 3x6) starting carting the bowlers all over the park. Sourasish Lahiri (0/39 in 7 overs) was the only one who didn’t get a severe punishment. Skipper Shukla, who picked up two wickets, went for 77 in his quota of 10 overs. TN Openers S. Anirudha and Vijay, and left-hander Abhinav Mukund played their parts — in contrasting manners — but it was Karthik's 47-ball 88 (3x6, 11x4) and his partnership with R. Sathish during the batting Power Play that produced 68 runs. This took the pressure off the Tamil Nadu bowlers on a featherbed of a pitch in the final played at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium here at Motera. Earlier, Tamil Nadu won the toss and opted to bat. Vijay (103, 102b, 7x4, 3x6) with correct foot-work and defence found his shots initially travelling straight to the fielders, but after Anirudha (56, 52b, 9x4) departed, Vijay took charge with a flurry of deflections, lofted shots and carpet drives. Three sixes of Pakre took him to his century before an inside-out shot against Pakre offered a chance and Tiwary sprinted about 10 metres to take the catch. Mukund opted to play second fiddle to Vijay during the second-wicket stand, but once the ball was changed in the 35th over, the left-hander got into the act hammering Pakre and Bose for two sixes. Karthik and Sathish's remarkable show of aggression fetched Tamil Nadu 164 runs in the last 15 overs; just 14 runs came in the last two because Sathish fell after a 17-ball 36 (3x4, 2x6) and Karthik departed after touching a strike-rate of 187.33. Tough chase Bengal began with a 40-run opening partnership between Aridham Das and Goswami at six an over. The top team from the East was not easily tamed; Goswami (81,84b) and Ganguly (74, 66b) delivered 17 boundaries and nine sixes, but fell victims to the enormity of the task. Chasing a target of 380 was always difficult, but Sreevats who has been in brilliant form along with Sourav took the attack back to the opposition camp. Sreevats hit 10 boundaries and two sixes in his 84-ball knock. He finished the tournament as the top scorer with a total of 568 runs. Sourav, on the other hand, looked at ease against both pace and spin as he repeatedly bisected the off-side field. However, their 120-run second wicket partnership perished when part-timer S. badrinath fired one wide and Sourav’s flat hit over long-off was smartly caught by Rajagopal Sathish. Soon after that Sreevats departed, caught at backward point to the same fielder of Yo Mahesh’s bowling. Bengal’s chase went off track after his dismissal. The Bengal middle-order, comprising Manoj Tiwary (18), Laxmi Ratan Shukla (11) and Wriddhiman Saha (26) slowed the chase down. The stage was set for Tiwary to impose himself on the Tamil Nadu bowling with the asking rate hovering around eight runs per over, but the talented youngster wasn’t able to do much. TN bowlers let it slip in the first half after Dinesh Karthik opted to bat first. R. Ashwin and Anirudha reprieved Shreevats Goswami when on 19 and 45, but once Sathish held Ganguly (at long-off), Goswami (point) and Tiwary (mid-wicket), the run-rate shot up and made it a tough task for the lower order. Yes, the pitch had nothing in it for the faster bowlers. Only Dinda generated some pace (130s) on that wicket. Yo Mahesh did not even touch 120 kmph. And Ranadeb Bose did not even touch 110 on occasions. And no guys I am not talking about slower balls. Ganguly was a touch unlucky with that dismissal. He had hit the ball very well even though he was not to the pitch. That was a very good catch by Sathish at the boundary - long off.
