Ravindra Jadeja, the India international, will miss the IPL 2010 season after being caught out of contract with the deadline for the final squad lists passing on Friday. Jadeja played for the Rajasthan Royals in the first two seasons of the IPL but has not subsequently found a place with any franchise. Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, confirmed that Jadeja had been penalised for allegedly trying to negotiate terms with another franchise. "The IPL governing council has arrived at this decision after due deliberations done after taking into account Ravindra Jadeja's representation to the president of the BCCI and a further representation by the Rajasthan Royals," he said in a statement. "The player guidelines laid out by the governing council of the IPL are sacrosanct and all players will need to strictly adhere to the same. We will not tolerate any player playing games or blackmailing any teams or the IPL/BCCI in any manner." However, IPL sources say he could be allowed back into the IPL if he appeals to the governing council. Though Jadeja's name was removed from the Rajasthan squad list on the official IPL website around 11pm on Friday, he is still listed as a "batting star", along with his picture and vital stats. When contacted on Friday night, Jadeja said he was unaware of any reason why he should not be in the Rajasthan squad but did not wish to discuss the issue. Jadeja, 21, is an India international, with 19 ODIs and five Twenty20 games under his belt. He was a key member of the team that won the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia in 2008, which pitchforked him into the limelight and an IPL contract, worth US$30,000, with Rajasthan. He was one of the key performers in Rajasthan's victorious campaign in the inaugural IPL, leading Shane Warne, the captain and coach, to single him out as a special talent and a "superstar in the making"

how much did he go for ipl-1?
Jadeja and Yusuf were paid 30K dollars i.e. 12 lakhs each as mentioned in the article... but they have been the backbone of RR since IPL 1 .. so they might be a bit frustated with seeing useless players getting 10-20 times their price .. but he should have performed well in IPL 3 too when him contract ended and then waited for other franchisees in IPL 4 auction to bid a huge amount on him .. right now he broke the rules and that makes sense .. but at the same time if a Gayle or a Pwnting negotiated with other franchisees then would they also be banned :dontknow:

well it seems big confusion. Jadeja had sent letter to BCCI about renewal of his contract, asked for their guidance, as his contract was over on 31st December. He did not hear anything from Rajasthan Royal as well. So wanted to see if anyone else is interested. He had no clue about breach or anything. BCCI, IPL is equally to be blamed here C'mon dude is very young and wants to play in IPL. He was just looking for any contract.

http://www.cricinfo.com/ipl2010/content/story/451080.html Appeal on Ravindra Jadeja's ban rejected Nagraj Gollapudi March 7, 2010 Ravindra Jadeja's hopes of featuring in the IPL have vanished after a last-minute appeal was rejected by the league's Governing Council. At the outset of the meeting, held in Mumbai to discuss the tender process for the two new franchises, Niranjan Shah, the IPL vice-chairman, appealed to the BCCI president Shashank Manohar to remove the one-year ban imposed on Jadeja. But Manohar reportedly declined the plea and Jadeja will have to sit out the current season. Lalit Modi, the IPL chairman, had indicated a few days ago that the Jadeja matter was beyond him and Manohar had the discretion to take the final decision. "He [Manohar] did not want to set a wrong precedent, so he dismissed the request. So Jadeja now cannot play in the IPL (this year)" an IPL official said. According to the IPL, the allrounder was being punished for violating the IPL's terms and conditions, trying to negotiate outside his contract with Rajasthan Royals. Incidentally, Jadeja had pleaded his innocence saying that he had sought prior approval from the BCCI, before deciding to negotiate with other franchises. In his letter to the BCCI, reportedly written two weeks before Saturday's ban, Jadeja said his contract with Rajasthan had expired on December 31, 2009 and that they did not give him any indications they were going to renew his contract. Shah, who also is the president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, the state that Jadeja represents in domestic cricket, had earlier written to the BCCI, requesting a reduction in the ban to a few games. He checked again with the Governing Council on Sunday, but it was rejected.

ipl needs a players union' date=this kind of nonsense doesnt work in other leagues, why dont they reprimand the teams which solicited jadeja too?
this is what Modi try to avoid..he is already doing that with Other country player assn by not recognizing them... but i wonder whats the meaning fo decision is beyond his hands..he is the IPL commisiioner..if he dont have these rights..then what rights he have?

The BCCI is involved and its been reported to the BCCI Pres. I think thats what he meant.
But this is an IPL issue..eventhoght BCCi controls IPL..IPL commissioner is the Final authority on such issues i thought... Initially what i thoght was its jadeja's mistake...but His contract was only for 2 years..so y he cant Deal with other teams after end of his contract ?

Jadeja's ban appeal rejected Bollywood actor and co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals Shilpa Shetty hoped the Shane Warne-led side will re-live the first year's glory. More... Monday 8th March 2010 Jadeja's ban appeal rejected Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's slender hopes of playing the Indian Premier League went up in smoke. His hopes evaporated after the IPL governing council turned down his appeal against a one-year ban for violating the Twenty20 event's terms and conditions. Jadeja was banned for negotiating outside his contract with the Rajasthan Royals. In his appeal, the all-rounder claimed that he had taken the BCCI's permission to look for other teams after the Royals gave no indication of renewing his contract which ended in December last year. According to a cricket website, IPL vice-chairman Niranjan Shah raised the issue of reducing the ban on Jadeja with BCCI President Shashank Manohar during Sunday's tender meeting in Mumbai but his appeal was turned down. "He (Manohar) did not want to set a wrong precedent, so he dismissed the request. So Jadeja now cannot play in the IPL (this year)," an IPL official said.
