How many of you seriously believe that you can get away in North America or Europe with a painting of a naked Jesus humping a farm animal?

How many of you seriously believe that you can get away in North America or Europe with a painting of a naked Jesus humping a farm animal? The reason I bring this up is to point out that people still have strong religious sentiments and there is no point in offending them. It applies equally to all religions. I am equally not in favour of either Hussain's paintings or Rushdie's satanic verses. Btw, I thought there was a law in India against incitement of religious sentiments, wouldn't it be applicable here?
No But But But..It can be done in India and to Hindus because WE ARE THE GREATEST SECULAR LIBERAL BROADMINDED RELIGION (people can come and **** us and laugh at us,, is a different matter). As long as we feel that we are SECURAL, LIBERAL, BROADMINDED, NON-TALIBAAN, we are okay..And we need to prove that every time and that's not a requirement of other religions..Other religions can be what they are..Ruthless, converting and expanding..We are Hindus, apologetic Hindus..We are the only ones God have given the responsibilities to be welcoming, secular, broadminded, liberal and what not.. Because if we are not them we are worse than Talibaans.. What logic!!

I'm amazed about some so called Hindu's who always find no harm in other people abusing Hindu deities and try to portray themselves as "secular, broadminded, liberal" Hindus. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. The paintings by MOFO Hussain of Hindu deities has hurt me a lot. If that makes me similar to the Talibans, so be it. Can't give our asses in a platter for everybody to **** of and be pleased at being 'libral, secular and boradminded' Hindu.. other Non-Hindus preaching here in this topic to Hindus, STFU and mind your own religion. Good riddance MOFO Hussain..But am dissappinted that you got scot free after the murder Hindu feelings you did so blatantly for so many years in the guise of 'artistic freedom'..Hope you get you come uppance where ever you live and in this life only..
I fully understand and I fully agree with you. I dont believe in idol worship at all, but I think this is more about respecting others faiths and not about idol worship. Everyman needs to respect other religions and communities, their beliefs and customs (unless illegal). The old fart failed to do that and the distress the Hindus showed was justified. If it was done to the Islamic faith, I am sure that the old man would be dead by now.

The Indian law miserably failed in punishing Hussain's outrageous paintings. He should have been stopped and punished when the first such painting came out. If we can not respect and protect the sentiments of the country's largest community, what kind of democracy we are?

Then why not destroy the temples of Ajantha Ellora, Kamasutra, etc because they do the same thing Gee hinduism must be the weakest religion in the wolrd if it gets hurt by a 95 year old man wielding a paint brush How is the strength and weakness of a religion measured? Not by the sheer number of followers but by the strength of faith and the tolerance of its followers. Buddhism is one of the strongest religion because its the most tolerant. So is hinduism. its only people who are insecure about their identity and religion who see a threat from every side. Hinduism is the oldest religion and has seen and survived all. it doesnt need defending by a bunch of rabid followers. i will give you an example of what hinduism stands for and why despite the british rule, India still managed to remain a hindu majority country Once General Dyers was with a catholic priest who was preaching to a village in South India. He was getting frusturated that he was not able to get the message across and convert even one of them. Then he did something, which shocked General Dyers. At that time they were alone without any soldiers surrounded by thousands of villagers. The priest took a Shiv Ling, placed it on one side of a weighing scale and said, "This is a useless stone which you worship, it can be used only to weigh meat and not for prayer". The villagers calmly looked on, (not because they were scared of General Dyers, it was the first time he was visiting). The priest turned to Dyers and said, "These people can never be converted. People who have such faith in their religion that they can calmly watch as someone tries to put it down can never be made to change their mind. In thier minds their religion is untouchable, unchangable and a truth which humans cant affect. The only people who convert are the ones who have doubt in their mind. This doubt leads to fear, then to anger and finally to retaliation. Then they discard their religion because they are insecure. But not these people" That was my India and my hinduism. Not the hinduism which is afraid of an old man in his nineties or a painting or an article on the internet. This is the same kind of defensive thinking, literal interpretation and insecurity that led Islam to the state it is now in the world. The Taliban is scared of the statue of Buddha, of an unveiled women, of short trousers, of girl education and they try to blow everything away. now we are scared of a couple of paintings affecting our faith. Must be a very weak faith indeed

The temples in Ajanta Ellora, Khajuraho, and Kamasutra are done by Hindus who understand the religion. I don't want a Muslim to abuse my religion in the name of art. Hinduism is not weak and we don't have to bend down and act liberal to prove that. For once show some respect to your religion instead of joining people from other religion in abusing your own religion. Nobody is afraid of MOFO Hussain and his art. It's apologetic Hindus who think that by supporting MOFO Hussain will make their religion strong. lol, the guy went scotfree and settled down in a Gulf Country.. By your logic all the Protesting Muslims and Islam as a religion is weak when they protested against Salmaan Rushdie, Danish Cartoonists and Taslima Nasreen. Go and tell that to a Muslim and see his/her reaction.. Good that people like you are not in the Indian armed forces. You guys will make way for invading enemies..

What do you suggest? Sit on a peaceful dharna at India gate? That's if you wish to protest. Otherwise life tho chalta hain..People come and **** Indians, Ki farak painda hain..Bera gark Ho Indians (especially Hindus) ka meri balaa seh.. Isn't it? Just join the "secular" bandwagon..

It has always been that way with hinduism throughout the centuries. People have come to abuse it, destroy temples, convert people forcefully and most have gone away as much better people with a better understanding of the religion. And hinduism had grown and survived it all. People are threatened by things which they dont understand and are afraid of. the way of hinduism was never to retaliate by force but to convert by understanding. If you are not afraid of Hussain's painting then why are you hurt by it? why do you think our religion is affected by it? And whats with the abuse? He is in the 90s. First and foremost our religion teaches us to respect elders no matter hwo they are. Even Arjuna and Yuddhistar seeked Bheesma's permission before killing him in war. You are comparing the protests made by other religion. Thats what makes hinduism so different from the others and hindus different from others. Our response has always been to embrace people and change them by knowledge not by force. Thats why hinduism is still one of the most respected religion and considered a religion of peace unlike the ones you mentioned. Consider this, the damage done to Islam and its image by those protests was far, far worse than what Rushdies' books or Danish cartoons could ever have done and about me being in the armed forces. I belong to a religion which forgave even Rakhshasas when needed and picked up arms against their own brothers when karma demanded it

What do you suggest? Marry our sister to visitors like Kasab or make Sajjan Kumar president of India?

What has kassab got to do with MF Hussain :wall:
It has go to do with it. You see, when few liberated souls see nothing wrong anywhere and jump on others to brand them Shiv Sainiks, we have to think how much tolerant you can be as a Hindu.. Branding every body protesting as SS is the new trend going on in the 'liberal & tolerant circles' I believe.. People do get frustrated when nothing happens to attackers on our culture, lives etc. and vent their feelings. Ideally they shoudln't protest and if at all, they should do dharnas at India gate and Boat clubs..

In all those cases, there was a valid reason behind the paintings (protest etc), none of them were naked performing sexual acts except the last one. All of them were protested and in some cases legal proeceedings initiated. These cases are not exactly proof that Europe or North America is more tolerant if you insult christianity.

In all those cases' date=' there was a valid reason behind the paintings[/quote'] ? Please elaborate. Art or not, this is really pushing the boundaries. Heres another one.
The painting depicted a black African Mary surrounded by images from blaxploitation movies and close-ups of female genitalia cut from pornographic magazines, and elephant dung

C'mon MTC, it's like saying "Since you sleep with your wife, whats the big deal if others sleep with her?" Besides, there is a difference between Hinduism as a religion and Indian art, culture and history. Ajanta, Alora and Kamasutra are not part of Hindu mythology. Ajanta and Alora are examples of art. Kamasutra teaches ways of making love and does not defame any religion or community in doing so. You may present Hussain as a 95 years nobody with a brush, but in reality he is one of the foremost painters in the world whose painting will not only be seen, appreciated and analyzed by art lovers around the world, but also the paintings and what has been expressed in them will probably live for centuries. Besides, just because Kamasutra was written by a Hindu pundit (which only teaches the art of making love), it does not give a license to everyone to depict the gods and goddesses (hate to express that term in plural) in nude and explicit poses. The Hindu mythology does not describe Durga or Saraswati or any other God or Goddess as nude or as having sex with anyone in any way. A normal human being would not like to see him sister or mother of wife painted nude and projected to the entire world. How can you expect them not to react when the same is done to their Gods? Would one not react if his sister/mother/wife is painted nude or photographed nude by someone or if someone says derogatory things about them? God and Goddesses have even bigger place in peoples lives and in a civilized society, we live together by respecting each others faiths, beliefs and practices even if we dont agree with them. What Hussain did was in bad taste no doubt and the paintings would have been ignored if they came from the nukkad paanwala, but coming from a famed painter, they were bound to make noise. I am not trying to justify the way the protests were made by some of the extremists, but there was good reason for the Hindus to be hurt and protest. And the system should have been able to stop the nonsense.

But my dad told me that my god was secure enough not to get riled up by what mere mortals paint..my dad told me that god has a much important job of looking after the world and stop a few wars...hmmm... There is also a law against pre marital sex and sodomy....Lets put that poor teenage girl whose nude SMS got released in Delhi thro' the same process MF Hussain has been subjected to, shall we!! Since, both of them broke the outdated law of the land (since both are not heinous crimes, i guess both law can be equated to about the same nature)
