4 freakin wars that we claim to be victorious in .. and yet Kashmir remains a disputed territory which requires hundreds of thousands of troops to limit the violence. The enemy with less than a seventh of our defense budget is pretty comfortable with the proxy war and massacring our soldiers and civilians. All we can do is say "we have kept all options open", "our patience has limits", "next time it wont be good". There are certain reports which state we have lost territory to China. The lesser we talk of our army's preparedness the better .. a two front war statement is followed by the fact that 80% of the tanks are not night worthy. If chest thumping about some battle in 1971 makes some of u happy in these times, be my guest.

A natural by-product of a country where people like Gandhi, Nehru and now MMS are treated as heros(not considering absolute dung like Shahrukh, Bhatt, and Dutt), while people like Marshal Maneckshaw, Shivaji and Ranjit Singh are sidelined. You made your bed now sleep in it. In a democracy people get what they deserve. As for the victory in '71--small karmic mercies...why stigmatize chest thumping here

^Would you enlighten us all as to what you have done to honor Manekshaw etc' date=' and how have you protected the honor of this country ? :hmmm:[/quote'] What gives you the idea that I need to enlighten you, or honor Maneckshaw, or protect the honor of India.... I couldn't care less what you want or think. To me the only opinion that really matters is mine. What I say or do, is entirely up to me, whether I am consistent in my views or not is also entirely up to me. Your logic makes absolutely no sense, pure old fashioned non-sense... :winky:

Then maybe you can start with yourself first. The gentlemen you criticize, or appreciate - from Nehru to Maneckshaw were all about others. You Sir are a tool that is only about himself so quit disrespecting Indian greats who you have little idea about.

To quote Al Pacino from Scent of a Woman - I am too old, too blind, too damn tired, 10 years back I would have put a flame through this place. Okay maybe not 10 years back, but only couple of years back I could have written a longer explanation. But here is a detail to interest you. India's % expenditure is lot less than Pakistan, or China for that matter. We spend 2.5% of our GDP, Pakistan 3%, China 4% plus. You can check out the numbers at CIA World fact book. Point being the 1/7th smaller country is spending lot more on defence than you are giving them credit for.

 Maybe you should get off your high horse by acknowledging the fact that there are "several" opinions other than your own that might be contradictory and not necessarily wrong. Just because you think or feel someone is "great" might again not necessarily make them so. Not surprising really, your type. -Morally high strung, can never go wrong. -Constantly assuming they know what is right and dissenters are automatically wrong. -Don't really believe in freedom of opinion unless it matches and suits their own. -Think somethings are "cool" just because they sound so. -Delusional belief in a Black and White world where they are always on the "white" side. Maybe before calling me a tool you should have read the first line in your post, eh!! And that stuff about "being about others" seriously:winky:....I'm grateful I didn't swallow that school textbook whole, the ink probably makes one woozy up there.

Though sadly the defense expenditure is pitifully low from all standpoints, India should spend much more on infrastructure(power & water) and more importantly education. From both the short and long time view these two areas will pay off bigtime.

I know that very well .. does the statistic of GDP percentage allocated to defense really count on the battlefield more than the absolute resources at hand ? Or for that matter in the proxy war we have been dealing with more than a decade ? Somewhere along the line, in all of the 60+ years, there has to be a failure on political/military/overall front that we are still on status quo on Kashmir in terms of territory and hence many other issues. Which is why i am not a very big fan of our military history. The soldiers gave it their all, unfortunately that is not all that matters.

Don't you find it ironic that after committing the worst genocide, next only to the Holocaust, the Pakistani POW's had to be protected by the Indian army against the Bangladesh Liberation fighters ?
