I'm so tired of hearing jokes about them & altar boys. It's a disgrace. If religious leaders can't honor &respect for what they teach, how can the rest of the world be expected to. (Just for the record, I'm neither Hindu nor Catholic) I think the followers are more to blame. How can people randomly follow anyone who recites some mantras and wears grey? They just dont apply their brain.

They just dont apply their brain. It's hard to explain why people believe the way they do. When you were raised to believe certain things it's difficult to change what essentially has become habit. You were conditioned since birth to follow a specific religion & what you learn in your formative years don't get shaken easily.
