Gunner_Mania Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 There can be no SouthAfrican broadcasting feed from the ground. Neo was the host broadcaster. Nobody else can pick live broadcast feeds from the ground other than Neo. That is why they pay all those millions of dollars for exclusivity. The rest of the world will only recieve the feed from Neo.
EnterTheVoid Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 And how do you know the speed guns that Neo' are compared against are calibrated properly ?
Watson87 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 SouthAfrican broadcasting speedgun :haha::hysterical: Dude are you high?
Ram Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Huh, there's no South African speed gun or Indian speed gun. There's just one speed gun on the ground, but there are different broadcasters. I might be wrong on this, but the way things work is that there is one production company that does all the production (In this case, Nimbus sports). They're are the company that buy all the equipment, lug it to the stadium, hire all the cameramen, technical people etc. So, I am guessing that along with the actual visual/audio of the match, they also capture all the speed gun measurement/hot-spot/speed gun measurements/snicko etc. They then give all these feeds to the Broadcaster (in this case Neo for the Indian Audience) and say Superports (for the South African audience). Remember, when BCCI sells these broadcasting rights, they do it based based on the country. So, the same match can be telecasted in Neo in India and Sky sports in the UK. My guess is the production company gives all the feeds to the broadcasting company, which then come up with all the fancy graphics/speed gun readings etc. And this could probably lead to all the discrepancy in the speed gun readings b/w the different channels. But one thing's for sure, there's no Indian speed gun, Indonesian speed gun etc. :giggle:
The Outsider Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 ^ That's quite possible but I can vouch for the fact that the speeds on cricinfo commentary were consistently higher than the readings being shown on TV - I had mentioned this in some other thread as well.
Gunner_Mania Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 ^ That's quite possible but I can vouch for the fact that the speeds on cricinfo commentary were consistently higher than the readings being shown on TV - I had mentioned this in some other thread as well. Yes they were. I too would be very interested to know where CI got their speeds from. AFAIK, they do their commentary based on the TV. and the host broadcaster is the only one which provides the raw feed world wide and then the other broadcasters can add their own commentaries etc.
rkt.india Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Me too had these questions in mind, someone should ask this from CI
Ram Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Yes they were. I too would be very interested to know where CI got their speeds from. AFAIK' date=' they do their commentary based on the TV. [b']and the host broadcaster is the only one which provides the raw feed world wide and then the other broadcasters can add their own commentaries etc. It doesnt work that way. All broadcasters get their feed from the Production company, not from the host broadcaster. There's no 'Neo Sports' camera, 'Sky sports' camera etc on the ground, there's only a 'Nimbus sports' camera. And Nimbus sports gives the telecast to BCCI (the home board), which pays Nimbus to do all the production. BCCI then decides which broadcasting n/w get the feeds from Nimbus sports, based on the contracts they signed. So for example, it could be Neo cricket that could have the broadcasting rights in India, while it could Supersports in South Africa and Sky sports in the UK. The only thing different that is different b/w the different broadcasters is each of them have a different commentary team, either on the ground, or in the studio. My guess is that the production company (in this Case Nimbus sports) gives all of the feeds from all the cameras to all of the Broadcasters, who then pick and choose what they want to show, with help from a dedicated technical team. And that is why, If you look at coverage of the same match by different channels, it is just not the same, even though there's only one set of cameras on the ground. The Sky sports commentators will have one talking point (lets say they're talking about lbw replay), while the Neo cricket commentators will have a different set of video/audio, all at the same time.
Gunner_Mania Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 ^ I was treating Nimbus /Neo as the same. I meant the same thing what you were saying. I remember during the Graeme Smith dismissal fiasco in the SA-Eng series, David Gower explainign that how SABC as the host broadcaster or production company as you call them provided the raw feed, but Sky's on site production team then added the graphics or increased / decreased the volume from the feeds as required and did the other work for Sky's telecast. So it was initially suggested that the feed SABC provided to Harper didnt have the sound for the nick while the rest of the world heard it. It is not always done that way though. For eg. the BD-Eng tour Sky here gets the same feed as Neo in India. Sky doesn't have separate commentators. Its the same set for both Neo & Sky i.e. Bumble, Athers and Bob WIllis are all representing Nimbus during the commentary stint and not Sky. They talk to the Sky studio host - pre or post game only.

And with reg. the broadcasting company also lending its feed to other broadcasters, that also happens. If you remember during WC '03, due to the law passed by the Indian govt. declaring cricket as 'an event of national importance', thus making it mandatory for all broadcasters that were telecasting important sporting events in which India was participating, to share their feed with Doordarshan. It all depends on all the contracts, sub-contracts etc.
