Every 4 years, when the soccer world cup comes around, millions of British women say goodbye to their hubbies for 3 weeks. The men then disappear in front of their tellies in a never ending orgy of crates of beer and footballing nirvana, to emerge weeks later from their living room cocoon as fat bellied slobs still reveling in visions of wondergoals and reeking of Heineken. During those three weeks, British wives collectively call themselves football widows. Over the last couple of weeks, I have felt like a Tendulkar-whatsit- how do you coin a term for estrangement from ICF- a renegade? Yup, a Tendulkar renegade, a Sachin-apostate, an ICF orphan, say what you like, it's the same thing really. Pushed out into the rough-hewed front benches reserved for the plebeians by my erstwhile friends, the Tendulkar lovers who have hogged the dress circle, relegated to the status of second class citizen, made to feel like an Afghan immigrant in Britain just off the back of a lorry....all because I didn't swoon while the great (?) man was scoring a double hundred in a meaningless ODI fixture? Erm.., how much did he manage in the only World Cup final he featured in again, exactly? Through this thread, I hereby launch my fightback against you, the enchanted lot. I call on my blood brothers, the Tendulkar-phobes to rise in arms and reclaim our lost ground, and demand that our right to differ, to dissent, our inalienable right not to be impressed, to be stick-in-the mud cynics be respected. As Lord Byron once said, "What is fame? The advantage of being known by people of whom you yourself know nothing, and for whom you care as little". All you little adoring schoolchildren, that sums you up quite nicely. The last time this kind of mass hysteria happened was around 2000 years ago. Wait, I'll elaborate in my next post. What surprises me that your reaction on his achievement is trying to belittle him. That wont work either. SRT is a swiss bank in run of the mill ODIs, he will build up startling statistics in those and when it will come down to those crunch matches, his supporters time and again remind us of those same old handful of knocks. This is from a man who has played nearly 500 ODIS. Nothing epitomizes Tendulkar's ODI prowess more than that Natwest 2002. Scored plenty of runs throughout the league stages. Infact scored a massive century against Sri Lanka after India had already qualified for the finals against England. But on the finals, Ashley Giles and his left arm trash became all too overbearing. Harsha Bhogle's " this was on the cards" after SRT got pitifully bowled, still rings in the ears and it says a lot. Yeah that ODI 200 was the holy grail. Coventry was the leading light in ODIS when he held that 194* record. Now SRT has taken over, because he scored 6 more runs in a single innings. I said on another thread, as unassailable as his Test runs and tons seem - someone is going to smash both the records within 10-12 years. So what would his legacy be ? For a man who has played nearly 170 tests and nearly 300 innings making him the most capped player ever, I challenge his entire gang of supporters to find me a single knock that is even close to being worthy of being in the top 50 innings of all time as listed by Wisden. Is it a mere coincidence that both Dravid and Sehwag ( who has played in the same team as SRT all along ) have more MoM contributions ( 5 each) in India winning than SRT ( 4) ?Needless to say SRT has played more than double the innings as Sehwag. Like I said earlier Dhondy, some things are indefensible but it is not worth wasting time here. I have learnt it, and so must you.

Even your pea brain would have noticed that India have started winning a LOT in recent times because of an all round better team, hence the same score made NOW would be more like to end up on the winning side than 15 years before. More and more of Sachin's knocks now, even though they are inferior in quality, have resulted in team wins. Explain that Is an average of 55+ in finals a handful of knock idiot? you bring the Natwest finals but conviniently forget the CB series againmst the best ODI team? Whatever you say Dhondy, the ODIs has been around for nearly 4 decades and the game has seen some of the finest talents during this period but in the end it took Tendulkar to get to double hundred. No matter what it is a fantastic achievement. I guess he deserves all the accolades given he's a quiet humble man and scores in test cricket equally unlike say Chris Gayle that does in ODI or Gavaskar that did in test cricket.

Lets get something clear - Kapil Dev is the King. :winky: On the subject yes the Indian supporters have this tendency of going gaga to such an extent that even fellow Indians get miffed, but if you take that aside Sachin Tendulkar's double century is a big milestone. Since late 70s, when truly LOI became popular, we have not seen a 200(actually we have NEVER seen a 200). And that includes games where 55-60 overs were played! So yes this is a unique milestone. I have a feeling Dhondy that you may be a tad miffed at the chest thumping supporters (BB is one such Ajmeri Baba lol) and not at Sachin himself, or am I mistaken?

Dhondy's a fan of test cricket, he wouldn't consider a double hundred in ODIs to be as important :winky: Good that Tendulkar did it and obviously he has more following as he's the golden boy of cricket for a long time but a similar feat by say Mike Hussey or Yuvraj Singh will not have attracted as much attention. It's different case they can't do it anyways.

2 cents - you are not even worth your petty name. Did you know those finals that you talking about have alot of numbers from the many finals we played against Kenya and Zimbabwe in late 90's ? How many finals can you count against decent sides apart from the 98 Sharjah knock, CB series in 2008 and the tri series final against Lanka last year. Thats bloody 3. Tell me how many more. And lets divide that by the number of finals he has played. You can eff off and not get your sorry worth replying to my posts if you don't want to. The double-hundred is an interesting one. It's was one of them records that quite frankly a whole host of players was liable to break in any innings some time very soon. But no it just had to be Tendulkar. But for Dhoni's surge at the end, he could have well ended up on 230 odd. And not a single Dilscoop in sight. As King says, he has somewhat unified the two formats by being such a force in both and people take that for granted. Never again will a single player rule both formats.
