thevortex Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 For limited overs matches, I am not really bothered. My point has been about Tests. Karthik is the top spinner in India - period. How he can be prevented from making the Test squad is something I will not understand.

saneindian Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 The only way kartik can get into the test side is by picking truckloads of wickets in the county season (something like 80-90 wickets and not 35-40 that he has been picking in last 3-4 seasons).

Karthik has been phenomenal and a game changer for Middlesex for a long time now. Lets just accept it that it is BCCI's bigotry that is keeping him out. Otherwise, he is streets ahead of the other spinners playing the game in India right now.

So in a way a spinner doing well in county is very much possible given the fact that Kartik is perhaps a better spinner than the above names. But as VVS says at 33 its looking very tough for Kartik. That one wild celebration he had in a challenger trophy match after getting Dada out has kind of ruined his entire career.

Just curious - did all of those bowlers pick 80 or 90 wickets in the county seasons? I am just saying that Karthik has been an important cog in the wheel of Middlesex. That much has been elaborated by the county itself. Oh by the way, 33 is a fantastic age for a spinner. That is not a bad age at all. This is not fast bowling. Not to say that this is not a tough art but there is no reason why spin bowlers cannot play past 35. And Karthik is reasonably fit as well when compared to slobs such as Yuvraj and others. The only other spinner I look at as promising in India is Ramesh Powar. I fail to understand why he is being tried out in limited overs matches instead of in Tests. Also I dont think his omission has anything to do with his celebration in Challengers Trophy matches. Karthik has been vocal in his criticism of BCCI. I suspect that more than anything else as responsible for his continued omission.
