OK again -- when that happened India would have required 200 or 210 in 40 odd overs. And you do not favor India to get it with 7 wickets in hand ? I would even give it to Bangladesh -- if Bangladesh were in that position. What was high profile about that game? Nothing -- it is all in YOUR mindset about it being a high profile game. The Pakis were a mediocre team in that WC and more importantly -- in that game at least 2 of the 3 bowlers were bowling utter garbage. The way u mention it seems like only SRT wins India games and nobody else.
Mediocre or NOT, Pakistan have raised their game against us and it is well known fact around the cricketing circles. 210 in 40 overs is walk in the park for you ? Do you even realize who were the batsmen to follow once UV/RSD had departed ? The likes of Mongia, and the bowlers. It was tendulkar's genius that tamed the intimidating (at least on paper) attack that boasted the likes of Wasim, Waqar and Shoaib. For starters, can you please stop putting words in my mouth ? I am NOT saying SRT is our only match winner but compared to the likes of UV and Mongia, I'd trust SRT to take our boat towards the shore than depend on the flamboyance of UV + mediocrity of Mongia. Besides why are we having this argument in the first place ? My post was simply to answer loneststranger who thinks that a good innings should not be appreciated if it includes a dropped catch by the opponents.

Question is pretty straight forward -- If Earthquake Struck right after SRT got out and the match got abandoned -- who would you have awarded the game? Who did you think was on top of the game? 7/10 answers (all across the world would give it to India) and here is why 1) Flattish wicket -- wicket had nothing in for the bowlers (at least not much) 2) Their bowlers had an iron rod shafted into them in the 1st 5 overs -- how did that matter -- well it completely shattered their confidence. 3) They were playing against a damn good battingl line up -- considered one of the best in the world (may be right behind Aus ). 4) India just had to amble to the finish line. No risk taken, nothing extraordinary to be done. Just be your self and the game was yours for the taking. 5) There was a guy called Rahul Dravid yet to bat -- and in case you are not aware of who this bloke called Rahul Dravid is -- he is one othe 4 best batsmen in the last 15 years -- along with Ponting Lara and your mate SRT. As I have said -- I would have awarded it to Bangladesh -- if they were playing anybody else in this world and they were in that situation. You constantly keep repeating that SRT in the NOT the only match winner but you do not give any credit to Dravid ? How I cannot fathom. BTW the batting to follow was Dravid, UV, Kaif (who was already batting) and Mongia. If you cannot trust a team with these 4 to win a game for you from that position -- I am not even sure what else to say. And don't point me Kaif and MOngia and laugh at them -- because they were quite different back then. In fact had India gone on to lose from that position -- that would be an Exception and not a Norm.

Mamujaan, you are underestimating the choking capability of our team : http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/64882.html 85 runs required off 12 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Dravid, Yuvraj, Kaif all still there. No Akram or Younis in the opposition attack. Flatter pitch than Centurion.
Hmmm RRR at 7 Vs RRR of around 5 -- how do you even compare ? In ODIS-- even now -- while chasing I draw the line at 6 RRR -- now with less than 5 overs and more than 5 wkts I might buy at 7 RPO, but anything beyond that -- it will get on to you. And yes -- occasional chokes do happen. As I have said -- that would be the exception rather than the norm.

Gambhir Sehwag Yuvraj Raina Uthhapa Dhoni Yusuf Irfan Harbhajan Praveen kumar ? another medium pacer
Zaheer Khan and Vinay Kumar. Vinay kumar has done well in IPL so far and bowls the slower ones well especially the slower bouncer.

Had Rao Ifthikar (correct me?) not dropped Rohit (which resulted in 6 runs) India would have lost to Pakistan in T20 2007. Had Razzaq not misjudged SRT's lofted shot off Akram' date=' India might have not maintained the winning streak in WC against Pak. What's your point ?[/quote'] Sorry for the late reply, but I still feel Uthappam is a tad over-rated and not technically as sound as No-hit (Eventhough technicality may mean squat in this format..)

Akram and Younis were not the kind of bowlers at that time that they used be in 90s..

Ohja should have been the main spinner. But I think his success in the IPL has got to do with Gilly captaining and having good chemistry.

..and Chawla has been impressive in the last few matches, he's bowling intelligently now instead of bowling a googly every other ball... So either of Mishra/Ojha/Chawla should compete for one slot in the eleven. Or if Irfan goes back to his wayward bowling ways..then one of em should replace him too.
