Australia ripped through New Zealand to claim a hefty 10-wicket win earlier this week in Wellington to continue a golden summer which has only seen it lose two matches - both to the Black Caps in a T20I and an ODI - but there is still plenty to be proved said the captain. "Every Test match we play, I think it's important that we make statements every game," he said. "Inconsistency was something that plagued us 18 months ago. I think with the Australian summer and certainly with this tour here we've played some very consistent cricket and that's a good sign for us." "We all know how quickly that can change though if you just take your eye off things that you need to be concentrating on every day then the game can turn on you really quickly." "We're always looking at ways to improve and for individuals to find ways to improve themselves, if that happens the results usually look after themselves." Australia arrived in Wellington with a relatively established batting line-up that was never really tested by the New Zealand attack. However, the new opening bowling combination of Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris was a gamble that paid off - with interest. Bollinger, who claimed a five-wicket bag in the first innings, and Harris had to battle through atrocious playing conditions on day four of the Test when facing 130kph winds, bad light and occasional rain. But both came through the challenge well and aced an important test in the eyes of Ponting. "I thought last week, being confronted with some of the conditions we faced was a good thing for us as well," he said. "For the bowlers doing what they had to do on that fourth day will hold them in good stead. Test cricket is supposed to be hard, it's not supposed to be easy. We experienced that last week and that'll hold us in good stead for the Ashes." The second Test is at Seddon Park in Hamilton and, with the pitch still very green, Ponting is yet to decide what the make-up of his side will be. "We trained yesterday morning and it had a lot of grass on it and it was a bit tacky," said Ponting. "I can see from looking at it today that it's vastly different already so once I get a closer look at it we can pick what will be the right team for the conditions." "I think the beauty of the balance we've got at the moment is that we've got guys like (Michael) Clarke, (Marcus) North and (Simon) Katich who can all bowl some reasonable spin." The Test is scheduled to start at 11am (local time) with fine weather forecast for the duration of the match.

In todays test match vs New Zealand wherein he scored 22 runs he became run out. Thus creating a world record of being run out 13 times in his test career. link Ponting who is chasing Sachin's record to most runs in test matches is now at 11,900 runs just 1547 runs behind Tendulkar Will he race Sachin?... we are not sure yet, but as of now he has the record for most number of run outs...we pray he gets more such records for himself.....

sachin has always been better then ponting!

better batsman maybe, but overall ponting is a better cricketer. nothing against sachin- my fav batsman- but ponting captained his side to two WC triumphs that in addition to being the no 2 batsman in the world puts him ahead of tendulkar who failed at captaincy.
