Desi Cartman Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Hyderabad: Police have fired warning shots in the air and imposed an indefinite curfew in parts of one of India’s key information technology hubs as angry mobs of Hindus and Muslims clashed for a third straight day Monday, leaving at least 75 people injured. A.K. Khan, the city police commissioner, said violence spread to new areas of Hyderabad, the capital of southern Andhra Pradesh state, where the two communities attacked each other with stones and wooden sticks. Police fired in the air at six places after tear gas and batons failed to control the clashing groups on Monday, he said. The indefinite curfew covered nearly one-fourth of Hyderabad, which is one of India’s technology hubs and a base for Google, Microsoft and IBM, among others. Here is why it happened Trouble started after Muslims hoisted green flags as part of celebrations of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday a month ago but never removed them. Clashes erupted Saturday between the two communities after Hindus attempted to replace the green flags with saffron ones to celebrate a Hindu festival. How feckings stupid that 75 people have been injured due to a petty issue like this ... btw we didnt have riots for almost 7-8 yrs now ...so why all of a sudden there are riots in UP and now in Hyderabad :mad:

In Bangladesh I have never seen anyone hoisting green flags in any Islamic festival and neither do Hindus start waving the orange flag during Durga puja. I think in India they do it just to aggravate each other since the Islamic green flag is similar to the Pakistani flag.

ViruRulez Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 All the time I try to understand people still I cannot understand people fully .. what is the big deal in somebody hoisting a flag or somebody removing it .. both are allowed under democracy .. Hyderabadis seem to be pissed off quite quickly nowadays .,. at first it was the Telengana issue and now this .. they seem to have all the time in the world to fight over useless issues

I fail to understand why all this BS happens .. and what is Hyderabad turning into nowadays .. a few days ago there was violence almost everyday about Telangana issue and now there is communal violence in the last few days .. I dont understand how a city which is one of India's biggest IT hubs with very good level of educated fall prey to such violence over petty issues .. I really hope that everything is fine very soon .. Class 10 exams also been postponed which is affecting studies as per news reports .. hope everything becomes normal again and Hyderabadis irrespective of religion, caste, creed or anything else start behaving sensibly once again

Many a Pakistanis I know have been extremely shocked to hear about the Moharram procession that takes place in India. Since it is undertaken by Shias, mostly, and the procession folks often carry weapons and keep bleeding themselves with it, it makes for a very violent sight. Indeed in many Islamic countries it is not supported, more so where Sunnis are in majority. And yes in India it happens without a problem. A Hindu majority country allows what is typically frowned upon even in Muslim land, let alone in Western secular societies. So yes please do not compare India with BD :winky: As for the flags etc, there is no big issue here. Its a free country, people can do what they want. Only problem is some haraamis often do it to anger others, and thats when the problem starts. xxx
graphic23 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Meh. Old Hyderabad is generally tense but this seems to be more of a politically run ploy than anything else. In 1980, YSR (the recently deceased CM of AP) had done something similar (organized some riots) to bring the then-CM Chenna Reddy down from his seat. His son, YS Jagan, who was the frontrunner to CM seat prior to Rosaiah being appointed, has given enough hints publicly about being disappointed for not being made CM. Presumably, its being done with the same thought in mind.

kabira Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I was right there on that Saturday shopping with my family near Char Minar. We left around 8 PM and I believe riots started hour after that. I saw flags all over and thought since its muslim area may be this flags are there forever. Lot of crazy ***** is going on in hyderabad.
