patriot Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Ian Chappell's latest on cricinfo. http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/455498.html And here was Rohit, a young Indian batsman of abundant skill, displaying the complementary nerve that is required to succeed at the highest level. The question is not whether Rohit has the skill to make it as a batsman in all forms of the game but whether the selectors will ignore his talents for so long that his best years will be past when he's finally chosen. The hype and news that this over rated utterly unfit, fat and temperamentally suspect " talunted " guy generates continues to surprise me. He is not even close to be being as dominating as at least 6 other youngsters in domestic cricket, guys who have never had their fair share of opportunity. His runs have almost come against the weakest of Ranji attacks and even then he is behind a dozen others in terms of merit on total run tally. Yet he is always the leading name as replacement. He has been exposed to be temperamentally weak time and again. He has been given chances in almost 50 ODIs for India, yet he averages only a pathetic 25 at a strike rate of 70 odd. Much like a typical Bangladeshi batman. He continues to be talked about as the most " talunted " thing for many years. Purely on performance, sheer merit and temperament, both in domestic cricket and the limited chances that they have got to represent India, the likes of Kohli, Manish Pandey, Murali Vijay, Abhishek Nayar are light years ahead of this lucky and spoilt fat boy. At the international level, Rohit Sharma has proven to be no better than Asharful, plays a few delightful shots but is a disaster overall. 50 games is enough chances. I honestly hope not to see him close to India colors, till he even comes close to topping Ranji charts for atleast 2 seasons.
nballa Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 before you say anything further Marvan Atapattu - 3 consecutive ducks(or is it 6) on debut, now an all time SL great Sachin Tendulkar - 75 odi's till his first century. Shane Warne - 200/1 on his test debut and a few ordinary performances after that. now please continue.

Bumblebee Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 3 first class hundreds in domestic even before he was 16. All on debut. and your point is??? i don't think so he's taking a dig at sachin! merely stating that sachin at the start of odi career wasn't that successful! and the rest is history
Gunner_Mania Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 ^The OPs point is about how there are far more deserving players who score tons of runs in domestic and are over looked in comparison to Rohit who gets preferential treatment. The other poster is talking about what people did post they played for their respective countries. My response is simply stating that when Tendulkar was picked to represent India he was doing brilliantly in the domestic season and it was based on his domestic performances that he was picked. I am not talking about what he did later in his career, else this thread will derail into another Tendulkar stats thread rather than about Rohit Sharma.
Sachinism Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Rohit Sharma consistently gets a look in because people see a lot of talent in him. But he doesn't have the temperament, he plays too many silly shots. The selectors feel if they stick with him and nurture him, he's a future test batsman. Sometimes it may not be a bad idea to give the guy some time off and pick form players.
graphic23 Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Rohit doesn't deserve a place purely based on his terrible fitness. He's 3 or 4 times the size he was 2 years ago.
Bumblebee Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 i am not going to defend rohit sharma's selection! but why yousuf pathan?? what has he done on the Int stage ( except that one t20 against sri lanka). We all know his weekness against the short ball. and as far as uthappa goes he got his run too in indian team to flop later ( although i think he will be back soon) and rohit did play some imp knocks for india in first t20 world cup and in australia and his bowling comes in handy too. i also read murali vijay deserves a chance ahead of rohit! vijay hit that hundred after the team for t20 was selected and just because of one hundred u cant select him ( his knock was brilliant) some people also said manish pandey! well he is now struggling to get in BRC side so i wouldnt go there! raina was also a flop in the last world cup! why he then? if i was selector, obv one doesnt take chances with team with the worldcup team! though i guess it would been a close call bw rohit and uthappa
patriot Posted April 11, 2010 Author Posted April 11, 2010 Rohit Sharma sure has some sugar daddy in the BCCI. I can;t think of any other Indian cricketer who over 50 ODIS has still looked totally out of place.
IKnowU Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 One more flop in the international stage and I'm pretty that rohit knows. It's upto rohit to lose his spot then gain it.
gaurav92 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Rohit has to come up with something beyond expectations, and show up his talunt in him, otherwise the opinions wont change. If he fails this time, i am done with him and i would want Raabin to get a look in who is in such phenomenal touch :nice:

Ram Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Just seeing the way these two are batting atm, Uthappa seems a no-brainer selection over Rohit. But hey, this aint the first time the Bombay boy has made a surprising entry into the squad. :winky:
gaurav92 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Lets take a look at their career at a glance till now Robin Uthappa Iframe: Open in new window Rohit Sharma Iframe: Open in new window Actually both have got enough chances to prove their worth, and both have failed to capitalize on the opportunities they got, but yes i agree that on current form basis, they should have picked Robin ahead of Nohit.
youngindia Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 stupid thread and some stupid comments. ppl who know cricket pretty well know who is a serious talent, who is not,who shud be backed and who shud not be backed. the ignoramuses here have their own ignorance and stupidity to blame.nothing else.
youngindia Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 ^The OPs point is about how there are far more deserving players who score tons of runs in domestic and are over looked in comparison to Rohit who gets preferential treatment. . An All time great like viv richards averaged only inthe 20's FC when he made his debut in india in 1974. doesn't mean a thing. you shud learn how to analyse a game. you can see certain players and know they have itfor international level. equally you can see layers like amre, dinesh mongia and sriram and know they don't cut it for internationals despite dometic performances. that's the way it goes.

IKnowU Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Hes fekin 22.......leave him alone. you dirty pedos.
Ramzz Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 SRT needs to personally nurture this potential run machine before he is lost like the rest of the talented players.
