cowboysfan
what would make it more exciting is to reduce the number of matches and have teams play each other just once.nine games for 1 team in the league phase is more than enough next year. kabira
well IPL popularity is going down every year. Too many matches in short amount of time is boring. This time around only 15 games has last ball finiesh and 2-3 had last ball finish. Even games have been boring. Divide the league into two groups of 5 teams, they play each other twice, so total 40 league games. plus best of 3 semifinals and finals. So maximum 49 games. IKnowU
They should have two conferences like the NBA and have playoffs. WOuld be very interesting :woot: Northen Conference and the SOuthern Conference :woot: At least this will give a northie team a guaraanteed spot in the final. :giggle:
Rajiv
You can't, cricket has always been a semi and final game..u remove the vow factor, but one thing u could do is make it shorter so it negates the form and win factor
Zap_Brannigan
Precisely' date=' IPL should change the format. I am not blaming CSK, they did what they had to do...but they were clearly not the best team over 16 games..[/quote'] Since CSK is the only team to finish in the top 3 in league stages in all the 3 IPLs, CSK should be crowned the IPL champions !! vvvslaxman
That will make the tournament a lot longer. You cannot alter rules for chokers :--D Australia also won every match in world cup. They also won the final of 3 world cups. They didn't choke.
straight.drive
The aim of the IPL is to build the most entertaining league that brings in moolah. And the current format of Semi Final/Final adds to the unpredictability adds one more layer of marketable "charm". If not for the current format, majority of indian audience would loose interest by halfway.

Dont worry, once everyone gets into the yearly routine and gets addicted they will sometime in the future change it a proper 'league" like the EPL. And the best team throughout the tournament wins. someone
So the only deserving team to win IPL is RR. Brilliant Now back to the question, there has to semis as if not,it would make the tournament not interesting for teams who have started bad and no chance of winning. It would mean less interest, less viewership for those teams whom have performed badly

Thats how NBA keeps the shi tty teams afloat and in a smart and sensible way.

Just look, MI were absolutely rubbish in first 2 seasons and only played well this season Similar K11 Punjab were briliant in first IPL but since then only went down. This just says there is no consistency in IPL rankings and more important consistency will not make you champions. This is why IPL has been very interesting and there are no **** teams as everyone seems to lose at same time or another in all IPLs

Plus theres 2 more teams coming in this year.
