Chirayu Amin named IPL interim chairman Cricinfo staff April 26, 2010 Chirayu Amin, an industrialist and head of the Baroda Cricket Association, has been named interim chairman of the IPL by the BCCI, following Lalit Modi's suspension after the league's final on Sunday night. The IPL governing council, minus its suspended chairman, met at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to discuss the issue of Lalit Modi, who was sent a charge sheet after the tournament's final, and the possibility of an IPL without him. Absent from the meeting were Modi and Farooq Abdullah, the president of the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association. Those present included the BCCI president Shashank Manohar, vice-President Arun Jaitley, secretary N Srinivasan, media and finance committee chairman Rajiv Shukla and IPL vice-chairman Niranjan Shah. The meeting started at 10 am, just a few hours after the BCCI sent Modi a show-cause notice, and a charge-sheet specifying the allegations, that capped two weeks of raging controversy over financial wrong-doings in IPL. Modi was asked by the BCCI to reply to the show-cause notice within 15 days. More to follow ...

whos this guy?? never heard of him... but i guess its good to have someone who is not popular. I hope he is not an attention seeking ******* like modi..
Look at Shashank Manohar, hes quite but his world revolves like a fairy tale. And more likely he cant even speak english properly is another reason he shuts his trap.

That is the whole idea. Modi was way too strong and singular in his approach. BCCI feared that in tandem with the Mallyas and Amabani's of the world Modi will corporatize the IPL to an extent that BCCI will lose its relevance. After all the Old Boys Club at the BCCI did not want the TNCA to be replaced by CSK or DDCA to be replaced by Delhi daredevils; which I suspect would have happened had Modi remained at the helm for a few more years.

 Chirayu Amin: Chairman of the Baroda Cricket Association (Don't anyone of you challenge that...cz thats my hometown so i know :icflove:) He is credited for bringing the turnaround in the Baroda's Ranji team when he replaced i don't know who as the chairman. Just because you ain't heard about a guy, does not mean that the guy will be controlled by the BCCI and he does not have a brain of his own. He holds the same position as Modi used to: Vice-President in the BCCI.

To be fair to the guy, he does seem to have good credentials as a businessman and a cricket administrator. I hope he focuses on IL's future and not on a witch hunt.

Lalit Modi is the only person in the present set of IPL GC members, who can run the IPL and take it to the next level, with every passing edition. Its going to be a huge ask for Amin and his team, comprising of Mansur Saab Pataudi, Sunny bhai & Ravi bhai, to even match Lalit Modi's efforts, let alone exceed the efforts LM put in. Everyone knows that. No rocket science. Even the Modi haters can agree on this.

He's a Gujju. He has to be a good businessman :two_thumbs_up: But the million Billion dollar(pun intended) question is- Can he live up to the expectations?

Add one more thing- He's not as dynamic as Lalit Modi is. And you need someone dynamic to make a dynamic competition a dynamite. Did I pull off a Siddhu there, Guruuuuuuuuuu? :bhangra:

If I remember correctly' date=' he replace Jaywant Lele. He was the one of the biggest SOB i had known.[/quote'] No, i found out....he has been the president of the BCA for 3 decades and Lele was just a rival in 2007-08 elections, but Amin beat him in the elections. He took over the reins from the Gaekwad family which till then had controlled the BCA.
