Zelig Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Deliverance - It is an epic of a film of a group of friends who go on a canoe trip to embrace the nature and end of fighting for their lives and sanity. The plot is simple but it grips on to you. The scenery is spectacular and the director has used the silence of the woods and the river to good effect throughout the movie. The character transition of Jon Voight from a family man to warrior is believable and that's plainly down to brilliant acting from the excellent actor. A must watch! Eastern Promises - Absorbing crime drama and character study served with the cold, dark and rainy London. A midwife gets tied down to the Russian mafiaso when one of her charges dies after delivering baby which has ties to a nefarious owner of a restaurant. Everything is done very well and the acting is as good as it gets. I liked it a lot. Viggo Mortensen Gross Pointe Blank - A hit man movie said in a lighter vein. The movie relies heavily on dry sense of humor and is a laugh riot. A one time watch. I wud give it a 3.8 stars. K-PAX - An amusing film with some good scenes, but it's worth a watch just for Spacey alone. He makes the character Prot so believable. Jeff Bridges does a fine job as the therapist too. Watch this film and enjoy! The Consequences of Love (Italian) - A touch conservative in feel with a twist of retro this film oozes style -the brilliant camera-work, acting, script, soundtrack and the manner that the secret life of the protagonist unfolds all complement each other in making this film a good one. With out a single scene of violence/sex, it creates a sense of suspense albeit it fails to maintain it throughout. The film is slow paced...not for all. This sums it up nicely - "The film is about someone so unused to life that when starts to live he cannot and gives up". The Millennium Trilogy (Swedish)- I like mystery movies and this one is right up there amongst the best. It is as good as the Bourne series minus the action sequences. Like in most of these 'series', the sequels failed to create the same magic as the first one (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). The female lead actor leaves a mark on you long after you're done with the viewing. Highly recommended. I'd to spend 300 bucks on these but it was worth every dime:nice:
Nova Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 why are you paying for movies? :headshake: Yo...if everyone downloads, who is gonna pay to keep the movie industry running? More power to folks who go out and spend money :two_thumbs_up:

Zelig Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 The Game - Really liked it. Good thriller-cum-drama. Michael Douglas does a commendable job as usual. 3.8/5 Fracture - I thought it could have been better. Nothing wrong with the cast as such but the screenplay wasn't all that grippy. 3.5/5
The Dark Horse Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Kalavani(Tamil)- was gud. The life of David gale- :two_thumbs_up:
Zelig Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Red Dragon - Prequel to 'Silence of the lambs'. Decent thriller. Fails to create the same magic as SOTL. Some of the twists aren't twists at all. For instance, the scene depicting Ed Norton's wife getting trained at shooting indicates that the "Tooth Fairy" has a good chance of getting shot by the female character at the end, which for me ain't a twist at all.
The Dark Horse Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 The Blind side(2009) liked it very much:dance:
Desi Cartman Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Khatta Meetha .. Priyadarshan movies are like stage theater shows. Same cast , similar stories and sets & everybody wears white  Well it wasnt too bad to watch considering I got the DVD free with the groceries and I had the option to take a 15-20 min nap whenever it got boring. 2.5/5
