No blitz games of 5 mins....i say make it 10 with 15sec increments....and yes 4 grps of 4 each and then round robin.
Agree. EMC, I feel 5 minutes is too short. Not fair to folks who don't have much experience. 10-15 minutes sounds reasonable with 15 sec increments. I am a slow player :D

Mr Wicket, would it possible to setup the league/pool/whatever with the actual rules of the tournament, so that noobs and others can find each other to play some warmups whenever we can find time?

As far as warmups, there are no rules. A few of us (sree, graphic, myself, tdigi) have played 'warmups' already in yahoo chess just for the hell of it - which is how the idea came about. For casual, non-tourney games - nothing's stopping anyone here from throwing out a casual open challenge or a PM if they want a game. poker fans, take it elsewhere, the owl's already getting angry. EMC doesn't want that.

Yes. Everything will be in Yahoo chess. Those without Yahoo accounts will need to get them.

The reasons we play blitz chess (5 minute timed games with 10 / 15 second increments), to the best of my understanding are: 1. To avoid Cheating; For instance, you can run a chess program like "Chess Grandmaster" say, put the difficulty on high, feed in the opponents moves into the program and than feed the program's moves back into your opponents game. 2. The other reason is time zones. When we get time, we would like to play un-timed games but because of short timed games, we can play 2 - 3 games a day

Given that we're also talking about having a small ton of games (each person playing a min of 8 or 9), it also keeps things a lot quicker. Though I hear EMC may relax the constraints a bit.

You may wager money. If need be, I am sure the nice moderators in the Betting phorum will also put up bets for certain matches. Just be warned, IACU may have to keep an eye on things.
