Great idea. I am going to install some chess software and play some practice games to get back into the swing of things. How frequently will we play each other ? Once, twice a week ?

EMC would like to see a couple of games played each week. Obviously given the time requirements at both ends, this may not be easy. But given the amount of time regular posters spend troaling and posting here, we are sure that finding time for a couple of games a week is possible. Is this too big a demand on people's time though? For scheduling purposes, EMC wishes to know. (Yes people. EMC actually is taking your opinions seriously this once!)

I am up for a couple of games a week. If we have some type of schedule (round robin in initial stages, knockout in later ?) and knowledge of our opponents before hand, than, we can use Private Messages / MSN etc to get around time zones and arrange a time where we can play chess.

Cool EMC.... We should be able to play more than 2 games a week. Once we have the format outlined, then we can fine tune it I am sure.

Patriot brought up a good point ---

Now, the only caveat in these online Chess competitions is danger of playing against a computer and not a person. :cantstop:. If someone cheats, I am going to unleash my Rybka 3.
So how do we make sure that no one is cheating? :nono:

Hmm. There are myraid chess programs on the internet, each with different opening variations. No one has the time to verify that it is being played honestly. It has to be played in good spirit. :haha: BTW on this topic - during the Kramnik- Topalov World Chess championship in 2006 - 78 % of Kramnik's moves were what the Fritz program would have played. This was the same tournament where Kramnik was accused by Topa and his manager of using computer help in his private bathroom that din't have surveillance cameras ( obviously ). He apparently visited the bathroom atleast a dozen times each match.
