jhakati Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I agree with your above points .. I had told those after the last match itself .. I dont understand why Dhoni made these terrible mistakes in the last match after knowing the pitch and then WTF did he repeat his mistakes again today cos he is an overrated captain
zen Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Wouldn't mind if Dhoni and Gary resign :--D May be we need Sehwag and his coach Shastriji :two_thumbs_up:

I dont understand why Dhoni made these terrible mistakes in the last match after knowing the pitch and then WTF did he repeat his mistakes again today It was asimilar pitch, her knew that the Windies would throw short balls at them  you know gambeer, VJ, Raina, Yuvraj, ...Bah! EVERYBODY ...cant play the short ball.... SO why chase? why why why :shout:
Ramzz Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I want enquiry commission to be set up against DHoni and the Indian think tank? :hitler:  That's taking it too far. Yes there should be a performance review and ways to improve. Nothing more.
asterix Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 This is what happens when you select, match after match, village cricketers like Yusuf Pathan & Jadeja..This what happens when you try to chase scores after winning toss. This is what happens when you select bowlers like Zaheer Khan and Nehra (who have zero skills in bowling yorkers and mixing the pace, length etc.). This is what happens when you pack your team with all the part timers. This is what happens when you do excessive Ad shoots and are forced to wear shades while in bed too..

achilles Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 Good point' date=' and that too on the same Bridgetown pitch, so there is no excuse we can hide behind.[/quote'] No excuse? There is one in the media already. Don't you know - Click Here.

Not just part time bowlers. Now we have loads of part time batsmen as well. :cantstop:
achilles Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 I think a key point that everyone is forgetting here is that most of the players get picked in the T20 and ODI squad after good performances in the IPL. After being exposed for 2 years straight, I doubt the credibility of the IPL on Indian pitches, being a right reflection of our talent.
asterix Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Time now to play another losing match and then fly back and start the hype again. Do more Ad shoots and then relax and watch the remaining T20 match on Flat Screen TVs...
bear23 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Even Gambhir can not handle short pitched stuff. That shows the gap between our class players like sachin dravid and these flat pitch medium pace bashing bunch.

thevortex Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Let me be the devil's advocate here. Yes, India struggled against the short pitched balls. But the bowling of the West Indies was top drawer. Jerome Taylor was mouth watering as a fast bowler. The control he has over his slow bouncer is second to none in world cricket today. They were deserving winners. Dhoni's strategy and consequently the team strategy was wrong. In my mind he has been wrong many, many times in the past. But the general public as well as the 'experts' never ever questioned them because they were fine as long as the team won. Now that the team has lost, just wait to hear them tearing down everything - even things that Dhoni did right. Such as persisting with Murali Vijay despite his relative failure up top. At the highest level a captain cannot strive to provide the best situation for one single player to come good. Dhoni has been doing that for Yuvraj for a very long time. If a spinner is bowling well, he will not send Yuvraj in. If a fast bowler is bowling well, he will still not send Yuvraj in. At No.4, that is. How can he do that? If Yuvraj as such an experienced batsman has to be shielded this way time and again, what does it say about the rest of the team and the strategy? No, I am not into any conspiracy theory. Dhoni, I am sure, has only the best interest of the team in his mind. But in my mind, this is not the way to go about doing that. Not good for the team morale. Not good even for the batsman in question. And certainly not good as a tactic to be used day in day out for years together.

We wish you a very happy journey back home. All passenger going by Flight PIA840 are requested to proceed to Gate no 2 for mandatory strip search security check.
thevortex Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I am not sure I would go that far down in bashing up Dhoni's captaincy. I think he is a better than average captain. But I was just pointing out the problem which is there in the Indian media (perhaps world media) with the predilection over the ultimate result and not the means. That sort of an approach does not often have a happy ending.
nballa Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 this doesn't hurt as much though, maybe too much t20, maybe the fact that its a yearly tourney and we can come back next year, maybe the fact that we already knew we will not go far into it, maybe the fact that dhoni was trying his best to go against common sense by playing a proven failure that made it such a farce. i don't know. doesn't hurt.
thevortex Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 I actually think in some strange way this loss by India would help in providing perspective (much needed) to the T20 form of cricket in the country and resultantly throughout the world. Am not a T20 hater, but somewhere at some time the question has to be asked - how much is too much? Even for T20 cricket.

DomainK Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I dont think there is a particular weakness for the short stuff. I think the weakness lies in shot selection against the short delivery when in a hurry to score runs. Put the same batsmen in a test match and they will see off the short deliveries with ease and will even start scoring off some safe shots. T20 is hit or miss cricket and we have missed more than we have not. Big deal!! Let me remind: "A team that does not know how to play short deliveries does not become no1 in tests."
