BCCI should wakeup and give more sporting wickets in India

No he is not a bowler depending on bounce. His strength is swing. All Indian bowlers depend on swing more than bounce. After srinath i am yet to find a decent hit the deck bowler from India. Ishant just showed some initial promise and left the scene. All the others are heavily depending on swing.

I am not sure whether it would be easy to produce and maintain bouncy wickets in ultra hot Indian sub continent. Besides to maintain the bounce one needs to maintain grass on the pitch to keep it from crumbling. This means that one needs properly trained pitch curators, who treat the pitch like their own baby. And this requires professionalism on part of BCCI. As you must have realized we have none of the above. We have had few bouncy wickets in the beginning, but they have slowed down on course of time. For me, our pitch "curators" look like normal state govt employees with zero sense of work ethic.

Just as long as 'sporting' wickets are in use at a few venues, I am fine with this. My problem is with the definition of a 'sporting' wicket in the sense that spin is always shortchanged as somewhat of a spurious skill to be getting wickets with - by definition. Well, I am against that. We need a balance in terms of wickets. And getting touring teams to play on what are sporting wickets (by their definition) is certainly not high on my list of things to do.

But at the domestic level, we need more pace friendly wickets to go with the slower ones - to produce more rounded batsman. Anyways, it is never going to happen so the point is moot.

I am not sure if it will improve against bouncers. Each batsman has to develop a technique on their own with the guidance from coach. This is getting beyond ridiculous. Kirsten has to work these guys through against pace and bounce. We are going to visit South Africa shortly.
