Every time India did well in a major ICC tournament, when bowlers stepped up. 1983 world cup - Binny took 18 wickets 1985 B&H - L Siva took 10 wickets i think. 2003 world cup - Nehra, Zak, Srinath were superb till the final. 2007 T20 cup - RP Singh was unplayable. After that we just lost our mojo in the bowling. Bhajji is not a wicket taking bowler. He just contains batsmen. That's it. Unless you produce bowlers who can pick up wickets you are never going to win in big games. In big tournaments bowlng wins you matches more than batting.

we pretty much suck in knock out games esp when we chase. we should have batted when we won the toss on all those occasions.

good thread. we have been sucking majorly in ICC events. one reason for poor performance in must win matches is we get our team selection wrong more often that not and make major goofups with decision after toss. these mistakes normally cost you the game but not the series where you can bounce back with better decisions.

Almost chasing down 350 is still a loss in my book. And I don't even know what CSK winning IPL3 has to do with this discussion. Maybe the reason you haven't been excited about ICC tourneys recently has been coz we have been knocked out in the early rounds. Winning takes care of everything my friend. After all weren't we excited about T20 2007?

I am talking about all the memorable moments in cricket for me and not just won ODI's but everything. Neither the players or the members here were excited for the T20 WC in 2007. That time, T20 wasnt seen as a legitimate format here (still the same with some) and with the withdrawal of seniors Sachin, Dravid etc, we were more interested in seeing the new team under a new captain, rather than the WC tournament. What happened happened but we have always been a bad T20 team. Me, not being hyped for ICC tournaments, before they start has nothing to do with India being knocked out in the future. It is simply that i dont like the formats they use. 1st we play some minnows and if we win it, the next game is useless, so that's basically 2 useless games. But since the 1st stage took a lot of time, we have a very short important group. But its too short to notice. Part of the charm of IPL is the league stage and usually atleast 7 really good teams. There is chance of a fightback. There is a chance of the mighty falling in the league stages by playing bad cricket and not some fluke by the other team. If by any chance, ICC removes the minnows and have a proper league stage, then i will get hyped again. As it stands, the last such tournament was the 2003 WC and that was the last ICC tournament i liked.

On a seaming pitch, people would be asking for Dhoni head if we are 30/3. Team selection has been bad but we lost because we were bounced out. We havent worked on the fundamental flaw in our game and it wouldnt have mattered who we chose, if he cannot bat short balls.

It's a mental thing. Ganguly had trouble against the short stuff but he had the temperament to guts it out.

its nt about guts it out..if it was the case thn they would have played better...but it is case of scoring on fast bouncers at 8-9 runs per over...bt nw it has become a mental problem for them...in 2007 WC they played on a much faster wicket of Durban and did well against short stuff too coz they played proper shots and didnt try to hoick the ball with power..they need to pick gaps play more precise shot against express pacers and take the benefit of other bowlers
