This is not a time for knee jerk reaction but to carefully plan the next 2 years. Key to understanding the last 2 debacles are 2 factors. 1. Openers failing to provide starts 2. Middle order aging The approach for 1 is this. Move Sehwag to middle order (now), and find new opener(s) and train them fast track by sending them to England and Australia to learn to play seam, bounce and swing. This will prepare them for 2-3 years down the line. If he opens, Sehwag will fail again 2-3 years from now, on bouncy and heavy seam pitches. The approach for 2 is this Move Sehwag to Laxmans spot now, drop Laxman immediately Drop Dravid in 1 year- Move Chetty to no3 Drop Tendu after two years, move Kohli to his spot and bring a new #6... The team will look like this 1 Gambhir (on notice) 2. Rahane/Mukund/one more newbie 3. Dravid.....Chetty (1 year) 4. Tendu...... Kohli (2 years) 5. Sehwag (Captain) 6. Kohli (VC).... newbie (2 years) 7. Saha .. or some other WK (Dhoni out immediately, he has no role in tests) 8 Ashwin/Ojha/ Harbajan 9. Aaron/newbie... 1year (at home play 2 seamers) 10 Yadav 11. Zaheer ..... Newbie (1 year) Feel free to fix and add. BCCI has the opportunity to fix the problem in the next two years.
ShebbySB Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I bet Dravid & Laxman will retire after the home series vs England.Whole Indian team is planning to beat the Poms 4-0 in the low,slow & turning tracks. Personally I don't see anything wrong in that specially when every team prepares fast,bouncy & juicy tracks when we go abroad.Playing spin is our strength & their weakness.Anyway our test team will look like this after the home series vs England:- Gambhir Rahane Kohli Sachin Sehwag Rohit Dhoni(C & WK) Ashwin Zaheer Umesh Ojha Reserves will be:- Mukund(opener) Pujara(Middle order) Saha(Wk) Rahul Sharma(Leggie) Ishant(Fast) Praveen(Med Fast) Aaron(Fast) Dhoni will continue to lead the team due to board politics,Sehwag will bat at no.5,Sachin will continue batting at no.4,Pujara may have to wait for while as Rohit deserves his chances after touring with the team for so long.

I completely like this plan rather than some knee jerk reaction to this recent debacle.
dial_100 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I dont like this idea of continuing with SRT for 2 years. It is absurd. He needs to go pretty much at the same time. SRT must go almost together with RD. VVS, I would say that he is still a good batsman to keep but his attitude on the field is pathetic to say the least. The bugger doesn;t want to take 2nd run almost every single time. If he faces 100 balls to score his 50 runs, he misses nearly 20 more runs while he is batting and another 20 runs when he is on the non striker end. I can safely say that because he is my TOP 3 indian batsman after RD and SRT. RD is and will be my all time favorite test batter no matter how he plays now. SRT next and VVS 3rd. I watched all the games, all three oldies were not watching the ball at the release but rather off the air far down the pitch. They need to go. They were ****ing mis-judging the line at least once every over. That is a huge issue to me if you know what i mean. VVS goes out in the first test of the next series that we play. Grand farewell. RD goes out in the first test of the following series that we play. Grand farewell SRT goes out in the last test that we play this year. Grand farewell PERIOD.

Vijay Gambhir Rahane (the most promising of our young domestic stars- from what little I read/hear) Kohli Sehwag Rohit possibly MSD :hehe:
