IMO Raina will make a good case for himself at 5. In fact, given how well Raina has played in ODIs and t20s, we may see Raina batting at no 6 in tests starting from the SL tour. And I am sure he will grab his chances, despite his problems against the short ball. Unlike t20s, in tests he doesn't have to go after the short balls aimed at his ribs.

:hysterical: rohit sharma has already been given a extended free ride in the indian team due to this quota system. he cant bat even if his life depended on it. and u cant pick rohit ahead of players like raina, dhawan, pandey

I dread even thinking about the retirement of Sachin. I have generally taken extremely less interest in matches where Sachin haven't featured in the last 14 years. They appear just so dull without him. Having to watch cricket that way throughout the rest of my life is so scary.

I'm sure my love for the game will never remain the same. Ever since I fell in love with the game it's always been about him. Having to watch the game without him will be a completely new chapter in my life, something I'm 100% sure I'll never be able to adapt to. I'd then probably be more interested in following world cricket, unlike all these years when my focus was primarily on my team alone. Not that I don't follow world cricket now, but the main objective is my team. Fans say they can go to extremes for their sporting heroes, and I'm no different. I'd agree in a heartbeat to give up a year from my lifespan for every year he remains in International cricket from now on.

I dont think that after the retirement of god of cricket sachin there will be any spice in Indian cricket team!!!I am very afraid even to think about sachi'n's retirment!!

Karthik will become a key member ahead of Vijay. Pandey will also be knocking the doors. Don't expect too much from all these guys right away. Yuvraj is losing it in every format.

I think a 11 like the one below wouldn't be that bad: - Sehwag - Gambhir (the openers have been our key strength in the last few series) - Kohli - Rohit - Raina / Rayydu / Karthik / Panday - Dhoni - Bowling all-rounder / 7th batsman / 5th bowler (Irfan, Panday, Rayydu, ....) - Spinner (Mishra, Bhajji, Ojha, Ashwin, ....) - Zak - Sree - Umesh

:haha: @ people who have looked into their crystall ball and see the likes of Tyagi and Umesh in the TEST team in 2 years ... I agree with the batting order in general though...however bowling would possibly be Ojha/Mishra/Chawla Harbhajan Zaheer/Nehra Ishant/RP /Sreesanth and that is not too bad conisdering these guys have proven themselves in the past in the longer formats - ODI and Test - except for maybe Ojha/ Mishra/Chawla

what's sreesanth doing in there? comic relief? and sachin will not retire after 2 yrs. he's in better shape than zaheer. CK nayudu played his last FC game when he was 60.

^True say, plus he would have retored from ODIs after WC so that should prolong his career a bit Lets see... Vijay Gambhir Rahane (the most promising of our young domestic stars- from what little I read/hear) Kohli Sehwag Rohit possibly MSD

I do not want to see Sachin playing when he's 60...:haha:...honestly maybe 2 more years of Test cricket left in him if he retires from ODIs after 2011 WC.... he has to exit gracefully when he's in good form...

We have a lot of raw talent coming around the corner. What's the point of 50 good players when we we can't pick out 11 consistent ones. It's time to find 11 consistent guys instead of just praising 50 players at a time. I know 50 might be an exaggeration but you get the point.

Scary thought indeed, lets hope our young players can grap the opportunities they get and prove they have the ability. I recently read a interview by Rahul Dravid, where he said that he and his peers would like to be remembered for leaving Indian cricket in a better state than when they had joined and they certainly have done that. I hope the players coming in to step into their big shoes don't undo the hard work that was done by our greats.

If I remember correctly (iirc), Sehwag had expressed his desire to bat in the middle order once the likes of Tendulkar retire. Considering that, the following line up wouldn't be bad either: - Gambhir - Karthik / Vijay / Rahane / Panday / Uthappa - Rohit / Pujara / Rayydu - Sehwag - Kohli - Raina - Dhoni - Mishra / spinner - Zak - Sree (bowls wkt taking lengths, reverse swing the ball but inconsistent) / pacer - Umesh (currently bowls around 145 kmph, gives much needed pace boost to our attack, which could be useful against teams like Pak, SL, Eng, NZ, WI, etc)
