Two weeks ago, twenty-two-year-old Yadav was named as replacement for pace bowler Praveen Kumar, who was injured during a practice session at the World Twenty20 in the West Indies. Yadav never made the trip as a suitable transit visa took time to obtain. India didn’t advance to the semi-finals, which meant the squad was on its way back even as Yadav was still packing his bags. However, Yadav can finally make his debut as early as this week, when India play hosts Zimbabwe in the first game of the ODI tri-series on Friday. “My passport is with the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Mumbai office. I have been told that my visa has been procured. I am overjoyed. I am just itching to play a game now,” Yadav told The Indian Express on Monday evening. Yadav knows he is lucky, in the sense that not many players get a second chance to represent India within a week of missing out the first time. “It was my good fortune that I was selected for the Zimbabwe tri-series. There have been players who didn’t play for India the first time they were part of the team and then had to wait for more than a year to get another chance; or never got one again. I am really grateful for this opportunity,” Yadav added. Yadav, who started playing with the leather ball only three years ago, is confident he can make a name for himself. “I have grown in confidence. Bowling against the likes of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman in domestic cricket and playing in the IPL has helped.” Yadav was in the company of his friends for a good part of Monday. The last time he got a call up, Yadav had spent just a week at home after being on road for close to 50 days for the IPL. “I have got a lot of time with my parents over the past two weeks. My friends are as excited about my India debut. A big gang is coming to the airport to see me off on Tuesday morning.”

+ 2 questions, hasnt he been selected? And do you really think on Current form Zak and Nehra will be beter than Dinda for ODI's? If not why not try him out? He did reasonably well this IPL.

BB, Just want to remind few people that sheer pace won't bring you sackful of wickets. You need to have other skills too like getting the ball to swing both ways when it is new and also extracting reverse swing with relatively older ball on dry abrasive pitches. Some people think that only pace is enough. Remember the same question Irfan asked too--'do you want wickets from me or want to watch me bowl with a lot of pace'? I'm asking the same question. Are the pace merchants here satisfied with the new ball spell from Yadav, or will they take solace in him being better than Vinay Kumar at least?

He was definitely better than Vinay Kumar, for that matter Vinay Kumar is just so bad that even a washed up Irfan Pathan would be better than him. As I said in the match thread, he seems to suffer from the Aag syndrome of giving at least one freebie in an over. I did not watch our batting, but on this pitch our score looks below par. There seems to be nothing in it for the bowlers.

Chandan - I think you are being a bit too harsh on this new prospect, Yadav. To his credit I liked how he hurried the Zimbabwean batsmen in his first couple of spells. Especially Greg Lamb with disconcerting inward movement and good pace. He has a well balanced action and generates good pace. That is a rare combination. He is a prospect worth investing in.

36 hours after landing in Zimbabwe you make a young team play a game. They should have defended 285 but lack of experience did us in. No problems with that though. The boys will bounce back.

It is a flat ptich. We have to stop being obsessive about pace. Unless they are able to do something with the pace they are pretty much useless. He was gun barrell straight much like VRV singh . It doesn't matter if he bowls at 140 clicks or 200 clicks.

Let's not forget that Yadav was making his debut here. He is quite inexperienced and raw an this series will only help him out. From what I've seen of him previously, he can bowl good yorkers. In the shorter form of the game, variation helps immensely and if he can improve on this, it will help him. While I could only watch an over or two by him, give a little consideration for the pitch and conditions. Give him a few matches atleast before riding him out. With more matches under his belt, he could be tried 4-day tour matches as well. Plus, this series is for trying out the bench strength.
