Social skills help you in overcoming certain long held beliefs. I know that it has helped me evolve. My point is due to the lack of social skills many Indians do not evolve and continue to hold on to their racist views.

My point is that people in India are less sensitive to these issues. Racism in India begins among ourselves. You are tamil if I am not wrong, how many punjabis or marwaris will give their daughter in marriage to a chawal munching, coconut oil headed dark southie like you? You may or may not fit into that stereotype but this is how many of your countrymen think of you. Then there is the belief of superiority based on caste. It is this very same attitude we take to the next level with foreigners of different colour, race etc. You cannot tell me that this is not true for majority of the country. Hell, even educated guys behave badly and here you are telling me colourful stories about India's sekoolarism. Sorry man, I dont buy it. You are confusing too many things. We are a very conservative society marred in too many social and religious rituals and very rigid in terms of accepting change. It doesn't mean we feel superior and treat others are cr@p. A Tambrahm may refuse to accept a Punjabi daugher-in-law, not because he thinks all Punjabis are crap, it is because he thinks there are too many differences between them to overcome in a marriage including religious practices, food, etc. Casteism yes is borderline racism, but that is an evil thing of the past. Today it's remnants are still there, but people have come to accept those of all castes and respect them. It is not something we have to keep harping about, it is something we are trying to overcome. It is ok to have many castes just like Christians have different churches, etc as long as we don't discriminate against them in case of jobs, etc in the public world. Most white Christians still marry white Christians. Doesn't mean they are racist, it is because they associate better with people of their own color, religion, race, whatever. It doesn't mean they are racists.

Yes social skills help you evolve in terms of understanding other people better. Doesn't mean lacking in social skills makes you inherently a racist.

My intention is clearly not to say that the whole of India is bigotted. If you however go around the country and talk to people, you will see what I mean.

In the South especially, you have one kid fair and other darker in the same family. Yes so we like our skin to be fair, so what? It is like how some whites like to tan. Clarke Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 The fact of the matter is this: owing to India's (or the region that is currently India) political & military incompetence, India was first divided into bits and pieces and then under foreign rule for centuries. As a result, anyone who had some sort of relations with anything Indian and shouted WARRRRR is admired by some folks. All Indians who admire Hitler know for sure Netaji tried to seek help from the third reich in overthrowing the British Raj and hey, we're descendants of the Aryans as well, pure race yada yada. Case in point: Saddam Hussein. He was a ruthless dictator and mass murderer no doubt, but has his share of supporters and a beach named after him in India. The fact that India had good relations with Iraq during Saddam's reign adds to it. I would not be surprised if Stalin carried a good reputation among a few Indians as well.
