Indian Batting for the WC'11

With a few months to go for the WC'11, as we know, it's time for Ind to start settle on its batting order. At this point, the top 5 in my book should be: - Tendulkar - Sehwag - Gambhir - Dhoni (at 4 would not be a bad idea as he has been amongst the top ODI batsmen) - Raina (showing a good head under pressure) #6 is still up for grabs (IMHO). The contenders would be Yuvi, Kohli (can be played at 4 if in the playing 11), Rohit, Uthappa, Karthik, some (talented) new comer #7 is also open but I guess we would (should) be playing an all-rounder at this position. Which is good, imo, as it gives a good balance to the playing 11. Options here would be Irfan, Yusuf, Jadeja, Nayar, or anyone who can bowl 7-8 overs and bat well Let's track the performances and discuss who should be filling in the shoes.

Sachin Sehwag Gauti Yuvi Raina Dhoni Rohit/Kohli/Jadeja/Yusuf Bhajji Zak Praveen/Irfan Dinda/ Sreesanth/ Nehra / Yadav
Jadeja/Yusuf? :omg:

Yusuf the love people have for him is astonishing. It's a travesty that people even spare a thought for him to have a place in our 2011 squad. He wouldn't even be in my probables, let alone the final squad.

As for the bowling, depending up on who plays at #7, we would need to play 3 seamers and 2 good spinners. I have a feeling that Ishant would be back in the scheme for the WC'11. It could be a toss amongst him, PK and Nehra for two spots (a spot if IP plays at #7). Zak would be in by default .... Sreesant is good wkt-taking option when on song but he doesn't bowl the right line in the subcontinent conditions. I think we should keep him more for tests

At this point, I would probably go with the following line up: - Tendulkar - Sehwag - Gambhir - Dhoni - Raina - Yuvi (If he is back to his best) - Irfan (if bowling decently) - Bhajji / Ashwin - PK - Zak - Ojha

yes, it's a joke as Bhajji is irreplaceable. (and he just hit that match winning 6 against Pak) .... Even if Ashwin 'turns out' to be in better form, a 'better' wkt taking option and an useful bat then we will deprive ourselves of that option

If you want over all balanced squad 1) Tendulkar 2) Viru 3) Gauti 4) Raina 5) Dhoni 6) Yuvraj 7) Irfan 8) Harbhajan 9) Zaheer 10) Praveen 11) Ojha This gives us 3 right handed/3 left handed batsmen as top 6. Yuvraj, Viru, Raina can chip in with few overs. Gives us 3 genuine seamers, 2 genuine spinners 2 decent part timers. Irfan, Bhajji, Praveen can bat decently. Some might prefer Ravi in place of Ojha as he can atleast score a few once in a while. But that would be wrong as Ojha is a genuine wicket taker. I frankly think you cannot possibly go wrong with this team.

yup, that's the same as the team I had (apart from the batting order) .... Though I am hoping that everyone is in good form at that time

Yep, SPOT ON. This is definitely India at full strength. Although i would swap Yuvi and Raina's positions, but other than that, those are the xi players india needs. Hopefully irfan will get his bowling right and impresses the selectors.
