Jadeja needs to contribute more with bat: Dhoni Press Trust Of India Dambulla, June 23, 2010 India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, on Wednesday, said Ravindra Jadeja has the potential to evolve into a genuine all-rounder but the youngster needs to contribute more with the bat. Jadeja, who was dismissed for a first-ball duck in last night's league match against Sri Lanka, has mostly contributed with the ball. But Dhoni wants him to show some spark with the bat as well as he feels Jadeja was picked primarily as a batting all-rounder. "Jadeja needs to contribute more with bat. When he came into the team he was more of a batsman who could bowl. But now he has turned into more of a specialist bowler. He bowls at the death, he bowls in the power plays. So, I think he is the best potential we can turn into an all-rounder," Dhoni said ahead of Thursday's final in which India play Sri Lanka. The wicketkeeper-batsman said not having an in-form all-rounder was a concern. "The lack of an all-rounder is a big concern. If you want to play with five bowlers then one or two of them need to bat. Jadeja has got the potential. He has done well in the IPL and domestic games. Now, he has got fair amount of chances in international level also and we are hoping that he clicks," Dhoni said. "He has done well in the bowling department and can even be called a specialist bowler. We hope that he stands out with his batting performance because he is the kind of guy who can give you stability at number six or seven. There are not many players that you can fill the spot right now," he added.

I think dhoni has some problem with Irfan because he is better than jadeja in all aspects of the game, still we have to suffer this worthless tundler. He looks like a walking advertisement for malnourished kids of India. :(( PS: All can bet money everytime he comes on crease to get out before 15 runs. 8 out of 10 times it should click. :giggle:

Sodhi, Dinesh Mongia, Badani, bangar, Rohan Gavaskar, Venu Gopal Rao, Kaif, Irfan, Uthappa, Yusuf and now Jadeja.. The no 7 position in Team India is jinxed.
That makes sense.

Can't wait for September-October... when the present Selection panel moves out :two_thumbs_up: And I hope the new selection panel will not get bullied by Dhoni like the "if RP doesn't play, I quit" bunch did !

Jadeja is not that a bad batsman however he isnt a no 7 so if we are serious about him we have to make room for him at 5 or above, if we cant then start looking at him as a bowler who can bat if there is a collapse or something but lets not expect him to start smashing everything for first ball. All who wanting irfan back in team have completly forgotten how frustating it was to see him bowl in mid 70s mph tonked all over the place and then maybe score a 20-25 on a good day. When looking at WC as a batsman yes irfan at 7 makes more sense but he will get hammered as a bowler in subcontinent as a bowler i would chose jadeja because he allows you to play 3 seamers

Irfan allows u to play 2 attacking spinners n thats wat we need as spin is our strength n they must get wickets. yes Irfan is a bad bowler but its ot like other pacers r ripping apart the opposition.they get tonked as well.so why not strengthen our batting.our bowling wont deteriorate that much

Had the WC been outside subcontinent then yes i would have supported pathan; Pathan bowling on our pitches with boundary ropes so shamelessly pulled in that a slogger like Afridi scored 2 centuries ; will never complete 10 overs. If older pathan could replicate his IPL performance when playing for India then he is a perfect no 7.

Jadeja can not bat for his life. This is a fact. Dont count his 50's against Zim as some ominous sign for near future. he is a complete waste. As far as Irfan is concerned he will leak as much runs as Jadeja but will score too (Give him some confidence and new ball, he can swing and get you a wicket or two). Atleast he is a better batsman than all who come for India at number 7 and below. I think you all are forgetting the awesome bowling jadeja had put on display in the recently concluded T20 world cup. :((

Look where Pathan is now.....although his batting improved his bowling let him down. Jadeja is still only 21 ffs and his bowling is tight most of the time(better then harbhajan in some cases).

Irfan can get swing with the new ball n take wickets.sure he may struggle to bowl his overs.but he provides a great option at no.7.u never know he might bowl well too.i've always seen him as a big match player.always raisin his performance for big occasion as for Yusuf, hes another Afridi.can only bat in one siituation,if we hv good start n need quick runs in end of batting PP.he cant consolidate at all if we lose early wickets.n less said about his bowlng the better.Irfan is better on both counts

i m willing to give Jadeja time.he can develop his game n be better 3 yrs from now.but he can bat at 7 as of now.Irfan should be there

Jadeja can bat. He has the ability and technique. What he also has is a complete inability to play under even the slightest of pressure. His brain and body just freeze up, he has no idea of what shots to play under the situation, he starts haring up and down the pitch like a headless chicken, and the inevitable happens. Can he sober up if given enough chances? I really don't know, but signs are not looking too bright for him.

I am sorry but we have a difference of opinion bro, Irfan was far better when he started, if only BCCI could manage him well. :(( Jadeja is only 21 and he should be put to the grind of domestic cricket to improve and come back in the team. Noone has any personal grudges against him but if he bolws like he did in T20 WC, dont expect people to support him. If he is in the WC2011 probables, trust me i would lose all hope :nervous:. This guy can never score run a ball against decent attacks forget about Aus or SA. there have been too many instances where he has let the team down and still survived. I dont know how musta paid money or special services :winky: to dhoni and selectors. He failed in ODI in hyd where goddy scored 175, then in consecutive matches in T20 WC recently (just to name a few). I cant find a match where he did something really good to contribute to the winning of the team.
