that pitched on leg stump' date='Swann's pitched well outside leg.n it hit top of off stump,Shakib's hit middle of off stump.great delivery but not as good as Swann's[/quote'] That was on or outside leg I think, hawk eye showed that clearly. Yeah, I just had a glimpse of Swanns delivery, maybe I need to watch the replay. And it didn't hit the middle off offstump for gods sake!! Watch it again! :omg: And wanted to add, there was much lesser turn on that track, plus that was early in the 2nd day. It's not just the turn that makes a ball great. Consider the bounce, the pace, and the pitch condition. It was an absolute ripper.

yeah my mistake there.but it still it hit on upper part of off stump.Swann's took the off bail

i know it was a ripper. i acknowledge that. but Swann's one had drift, loop.Shakib pushed it throughed n pitched it rather short, causing Bell to gon the backfoot, that he still managed to turn it was credit to him.but Swann pitched it fuller, causing Farhat to come forward, had drift, pitched it much outside leg n still hit top of off.Swann's was greater effort to me,not to take anything away from Shakib

Can't comment on that, before seeing it once more. But when the ball lands on a shorter length, a batsman seldom expects to beat his backfoot defense. Especially on a day 2 track. When it pitch fuller near the footmarks, on a turning pitch, one would expect the ball to gain some turn. As I said, let's keep this for tomorrow, let me first see the swann delivery.

Lost me there???? Bhaji has a doosra he can bowl while Swann does not have that in his locker. I would have thought that supported bhaji!
Swann doesnt need a doosra because he actually turns the ball unlike Harbhajan dart throwing, also he has been called for throwing his doosra but thats a pretty grey area. Anyone who disagrees Swann is the current best spinner is quite frankly an over patriotic moron.

have u watched it yet? as for bolded part,it was what was special about Shakib delivery.that he turned it from back of the length. wen u pitch it fuller though n the batsmen comes well forward,it allowshim ti smother the spin, dont u think? n it isnt a turner by any means.Ajmal got his wickets with doosras n quicker ones wen England were looking to accelerate.eventhe pitch in Shakib delivery turned as much. i remember Swann bowling batsmen through the gate

Watched it quite a few times. Taking nothing away from swann, but a few points: a. It did hit top of off stump, not the bails. b.The pitch was turning right angles, as mentioned by commies. Even colly got some huge dip. c. The ball wasn't that full, it was probably a bit fuller than good length. The ball too good for him, agreed, but his exaggerated reaction made it look a lot better than it was. Taking nothing away from Swann, it was a beauty. :hatsoff: And about chuckmal, we all know he's a darter, and whatever he got from the pitch is a bonus. He got really exposed in previous tests. Now coming to Shakib's delivery, the pitch wasn't turning much that day, Tamim played Swann with ease. When he got out, pressure was built and yeah he bowled a few through opened gates because you never try to drive an offie, unless you are damn freaking expert at it. Those are basics. And there was fair amount of turn, nothing massive as this. There was nothing wrong with how bell played Shakib, he tried to defend it on the backfoot, but that came real quick + the turn. It was much like Warne's ball of the century, landed on good or a bit shorter length, sending gatting into backfoot and hitting the top of the off stump.

Bhajji does deserve a lot of credit. He's at his best when complaining about pitches, players and other teams. No mediocre spinner in the world can do that as well as Dumbhajjan.

yeah right on top of off,saw that again:--D

that must be swing, how can Colly get turn?or was he bowling offcutters all the time?sorry didnt watch this n no pitch wasnt a turner, both Ajmal n Malik were struggling to turn it big today, all they got was regular turn which u'll get on any wicket on the 4th day

would u say the same with Warne's delivery?

to me,its much harder to beat the batsman wen he comes well forward.it enables him to smother the turn.wen hes on the backfoot,it allows the ball more space to move.

Supposedly, but he bowled some geniune offspinners too. :cantstop: Had no pace and got good turn, so can't be an off cutter..
Collingwood to Zulqarnain Haider, no run, another offspinner, shouts of catch it but that was all pad, no bat
Cricinfo :--D
n no pitch wasnt a turner, both Ajmal n Malik were struggling to turn it big today, all they got was regular turn which u'll get on any wicket on the 4th day
As I said, Ajmal is a variation bowler, and malik too isn't a big turner of the ball.
Saeed Ajmal to Trott, no run, this spins a lot more from outside off and sharply turns into Trott's pads as he went back to defend, big appeal but it was spinning past leg stump
He too got some occasional turn. But yeah, when you're like some 100 odd runs to defend, even Swann would look ordinary. :--D
would u say the same with Warne's delivery?
Nope, it had much more significance if you consider the context of the game. Warne bowled much more nearly unplayable deliveries later.

The ball is bound to turn more from the fuller/good length areas than the shorter ones. Agree or not? Batsmen get less time to judge the movement when it's fuller. But when it's shorter you gotta bowl it quick and get it turn from a shorter length. Which is pretty much hard IMO. That's why I rate Shakib's delivery over Swanny's.

I want to see swann and some pitches which dont bounce that much or aid turn. Strangeley english pitches now help spin. He will struggle in oz and will get raped when the galiticos turn up next summer. His average in India of 40 shows him up for what he is. Trust me going through good patch on very helpful wickets against some piss poor batting line ups. HE IS VERY OVER RATED AND WILL BRUTALLY EXPOSED IN COMING YEAR!

SA wickets must have been raging turners too?

As with most things English, he’s a bit overhyped, but that doesn’t take anything away from the quality of his performances. Swann has made attacking off-spin fashionable again. Very few spinners have managed to do that in the recent history of the game.

Interesting to see how he does in Australia...Hauritz outbowled him in the last Ashes for the most part despite Swann heralded as far superior in the previews. No doubting he has been the most consistent spinner for the best part of a year though
