Andy Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 If Dhawal Kulkarni is Our Best bowler or 2nd Best after Zak among Pacers then we know how low our Bowling has hit.
Sooda Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 ^^Oh Cmon he isnt. Still an A team bowler. Zak, Sree, Ishant, Mithun, heck probably Munaf and even Vinay Kumar are ahead of him in the pecking order. A bit surprised that Umesh made the ROI team ahead of Kumar but I guess he offers something different
Andy Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Nah Sood am not claiming he is ahead of Others. But if he is our First Choice after Zak or Sree, then its not somthing to be Happy about. 2 years Back, the bowling Standard that was at Display even Bowlers like Mithun were not Good enough to be our 3rd or 4the Best. Leave alone Dhawal Kulkarni. This guy i say is a trundler and No beter than Vinay Kumar and Ranadeb Bose.
Sooda Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Yeah thats true enough there was a time when the pool was Zak, RPS, Sree, the up and coming Ishant and Munaf was still an ok test bowler... Never know though maybe Dhawal will turn out to be world class.

From what I've heard, he bowls at 130kph in FC cricket which is the same as most of the others. Zaheer and Sree are ahead of Dhawal Kulkarni but Ishant has been poor in Test cricket for a while. Mithun has had one good FC season, which is what Dhawal did in his first year. Vinay has done more than DK in FC cricket, but if he can't make the ROI team or the India A tour to England, then he obviously doesn't have a chance at a Test cap. You say even bowlers like Mithun were not good enough, but Mithun has done nothing but one good FC season. He was an absolute failure in ODI cricket, did nothing on the tour of England and isn't much quicker than RVK or Dhawal - bowling at just 130kph.

They just dont look good enough to me to trouble even average batsman. Their pace is below 130's. 120's to be appropriate. At that Pace ven Glen Macrath will be Murdered around. If they want to play for the National Team, they should be bowling Comfortably at 130's wich is actually "Medium Pace". Talking about DK, well i have seen him before he doesnt look any special than AM or the Names mentioned above. Its just my POV, there have been many bowlers like RP, Ishant before they made their Debut, looked Interesting, and a Good Prospect. If i can Remember, shreeshant was excellent in 2005 Challenger Trophy getting Rid of the Master many times, with Genuinely Good Balls. Munaf Patel was another Example.
Karan114 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 I haven't seen enough of him to say if he is ready yet, but given the state of our seam stocks we aren't in a position to completely ignore any medium pacer who is doing well at FC level.
Guest Shivani Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Wasn't he selected in the Test squad for the tour of New Zealand in 2009??? All he did was warm the bench ? Like not a single game ? And he was dropped ? :headshake: Its better we don't select them at the first place, instead of selecting and not giving them a chance and then dropping them w/o letting em play

I though he was nippier than that with his slingy action and all. Mithun only got in in SL because there were a few injuries and DK did make an India squad as Shiv rightly points out (like Bose, Pankaj Singh, Gagandeep Singh etc over the last few years; only to warm the bench and not be heard of again) and to be fair Vinay was playing for India in Zim wasnt he, during the A tour and he got himself injured. He prbly is pretty far from a test cap, but still ahead of Dhawal Id have thunk. Might be wrong but Im guessing Vinay and Dhawal are probably great with the new ball when it is seaming around but not necessarily otherwise.

He played a game for Wellington and took three wickets and he played a few OD games (IIRC) and did okay too. Balaji got similar treatment too. I don't think it is good to pick people on FC performances (which I agree with) and then drop them without a Test, it doesn't make sense to me. really? However, he tends to bowl at 135kph in the ODIs which is hardly rapid. If he really was a pace sensation, he'd be tearing up teams in the Plate League and he hasn't done enough of that, yet. I think Vinay has done a lot for himself in terms of OD and T20 cricket because he has bowled very well in the IPL. I'd say he is behind in terms of a Test cap as he didn't make the A tour and would have surely made the ROI team if he was in contention for a Test cap.

Tendulkar_Bhai Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Wasnt Mithun also given similar praise and look what he did for us?! Slightly unfair as hes only had few tests but hasnt showed anything special. This is why we need to develop players who have proved themselves and gone off the radar as theyv shown how difficult fast bowling is nowadays e.g. santh, munaf, irfan, rp singh, IS etc.
msb1991 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Mithun was given similar praise, but with less justification. Kulkarni has had two good seasons for Mumbai and has played for India A. Mithun has just had one good season, which numerous bowlers in recent years, have had in their debut season. Very few push on, into their second Ranji year, as Kulkarni has, but Yadav, Tyagi, Sangwan, Sreesanth, and others, did not.
Andy Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 No point picking players like DK, AM, VK. Once the Ball gets even a bit older, they will look Club level trundlers. Yes if this trundlers can be as effective as IKP was when he burst on to the scene with the new ball getting early breakthroughs, there is a point spending time and money on them, else not.
