Guest Shivani Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 We were worried because of the men came through by boat. We should be more worried of the men who come through by vote! Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section "49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone! Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O". Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"... because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way; of our whole political system... it is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public.... Please spread this news to as many as you know... Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India ... show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting... so don't miss your chance. So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) and pass this info on... If you have ever come across this, THEN PLEASE IGNORE cuz :- 1. This is BS 2. The Constitution Of India does not have Sections for God's Sake! They have articles. was baffled to read the Constitution has 'section'. 3. Keeping aside the legal jargon, even if its talking about Article 49 of the Constitution, then let me tell you Article 49 deals with something very important, but it is not the right of negative vote, but the protection of our monuments. 4. This is NOT A LAW but only a RULE in the conduct of election rules 1961. It is upto the discretion of the election commission of india whether to follow it or not. And considering the corruption in this country I doubt it will happen. 5. If such an important provision existed, how could the ppl, media, ngos, etc have missed it for so many years? This ''section'' 49-0 of the Constitution is a hoax. Please don't misinterpret the Constitution and spread false information.

Guest Shivani Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 wish we cud have such a section.. you mean re-elections and re-polling ? You do realize that a re-poll involves the tax payer's money? And in these times of recession it doesn't particularly seem like a good idea. The key to do away with corruption and wanton vandalism is not to abstain...but to empower one amongst us. I have never voted :isalute: not a thing to be very proud of Shivani :adore: why :dontknow: :hysterical::hysterical: :adore: :headshake:

Anonymous Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 i voted for a person' date='who top from last,:winky:[/quote'] you meant, who came last ? :nervous: Sir john - the poal king  BTW....some of the election commissioners have reiterated in the past that they wish to enforce their discretion of allowing such a vote and have done so, even in the last election. So, why not make it a rule....why should i effin not vote just because all the candidates in my constituency are criminals of the first order. I wanna exercise my right to vote and make sure i let the EC know that none of the politicians in my constituency are worth voting for...
